Coyotes max out at 75 pounds?? Hybrids maybe. Standard Coyotes max around 50 generally, and more typically around 30-35 lbs. We do have these hybrids in Pennsylvania, BTW.

I encountered one of these coming into a clearing in Eastern Ohio. I hesitated, wondering could it be a wolf, or someone’s really big German Shepherd. I later found out it was the new version coyote. Have since wished I shot it.

Folks consider regular coyotes to be pests and these things seem far worse.

He is trapping them.

I came across a snare last year with a coyote caught in it... what a beautiful animal... I was mostly pissed though because the guy had trespassed on railroad property to set the snare which was all of 5 feet off the tracks. The game warden said it was a police matter because the trapper was trespassing... the police said it was an game commission matter because there was a live animal in the snare. All I know is I was standing right there next to it asking for a pair of wire cutters... It was yipping and barking just like a dog jumping about. The guy I was with all the sudden “didn’t have wire cutters”, so the animal was left there all night... the game warden called the next day, said he found the coyote in the morning, calmed down and just resigned to his fate. He put the animal down with a gun, and cleared the trap, and called the trapper to let him know his trap was on railroad property and he needs to remove it.

I was pissed that the animal was left there overnight... it’s front paw in a wire snare... and the next morning it was just dispatched. Beautiful animal... but at least he ain’t eating my kittehs for a nice little snack.

I would consider a coyote a pest. They can be a real problem if you have pets or livestock that are threatened by them, but I think they also play a valuable role in the food chain by dealing with small rodents that are pests themselves.

He is trapping them.

If you're referring to my prior comment, the farmer IS NOT TRAPPING the coyotes, he is hunting them down with dogs. I was there and I participated in a hunt..............

Correction -- I wouldn't necessarily consider a coyote a pest.

Dogs and Gray Wolves are genetically identical. Breeding of these animals is not a new species.

The documentary I watched said they have tried to eradicate them but they are prolific breeders.

Didn’t read the whole article but the film said they have been found in Central Park NY and parks in Chicago.

Some animal rights wacko would just start balling their eyes out over those pics.

Personally, I see nothing wrong with it. Been there, done it - only with beaver and raccoon.

Personally I don’t like trapping. With that being said, I’m not a land owner or farmer whose livestock is threatened by coyotes or other predators so whatever means they find effective in protecting their investment is ok by me........

Sells the pelts. We have beaver, coyote, fishers and muskrat here... I imagine they are trapping coon too, dunno. Trapping (responsibly) involves a significant time investment. Every morning you have to walk your trap line, then you have all these animals to skin... there is a market for the pelts,so it must be worth the time.

I sent those pictures to my old man back in NJ. He came back with a text saying that I need to stay away from that guy because there is something mentally wrong with him. I explained that out here these dogs are a problem. Neighbors say that there are maybe 1/4 of the turkey there used to be 20 years ago, though they think the fishers along the creek may be taking the poults.

I just tried to explain it to my dad... that this is the culture out here in NW Pennsylvania. You see, ever since he went through prostate cancer treatment and hormone therapy, he softened... when Inwas growing up he didn’t care about out family cats... they were just cats... now he has 3 babies that he dotes on... I saw him cry even when one of his guys was hit by a car.

With the coyotes out I said he would feel a lot differently if one of his kitties was eaten by a coyote. As it is, I always have to bring in my boys every night... to keep them alive.
