Governor’s use of state workers for oil research is blasted (Jerry Brown in California)

Gov. Jerry Brown had state oil and gas regulators investigate the oil and gas drilling potential of his family land in Northern California.

State records obtained by The Associated Press through open-records laws show that Brown and his aides last year directed state employees in preparing a 51-page geological and drilling report and satellite and geological map at the Brown family ranch near the town of Williams.

California law bars elected officials from using public resources for personal purposes. California's Oil, Gas and Geothermal Resources Division says the work it did on Brown's ranch drew on public records and insists it was legal. But state oil industry professionals say they cannot recall seeing state oil and gas regulators assess and map anyone's personal property like that before.

I’m the governor. Laws don’t apply to me.

I had no idea Moonbeam had property near me.

Just imagine if it came out that a Republican governor had done this.

Unbelievable, just unbelievable.

And I bet moonbeam doesn’t see a thing wrong with it.

Why you mean-old, carbon-polluting conservatives. Brown just wanted to find out how much gas/oil was on his land so he can shut it down and convert it into windmills for the poor. /S

Rice country. I was born in Williams and spent my
first two years on a farm outside of town. The people
of Colusa County are generally not fond of Moonbeam Medfly.

He also owned forest land in the Sierra Nevada county
where I was raised. He used to fly a state helicopter
up to see the place. Pot growers found the place useful.

It may be within the purview of the State to conduct such geological investigations anywhere in the State; most states' Geological Surveys include such within their duties.

Study areas are generally confined by funding, time, or geological/geographic parameters such as a group of rock formations, evaluation of potential for a specific mineral or group of minerals, or political jurisdictions. Scope may be limited by resources available (such as to a grad student working on a thesis).

That said, if the study is confined solely to the lands held by the Governor, that stinks on ice. Such information on file could enhance the value of the property significantly.
