(CNN)Two of the country's largest and most influential religious groups, the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops and the National Association of Evangelicals, are urging the United States not to halt the resettlement of Syrian refugees after the deadly terrorist attack in Paris last Friday.
"Of course we want to keep terrorists out of our country, but let's not punish the victims of ISIS for the sins of ISIS," Leith Anderson, NAE president, said on Tuesday.
House Speaker Paul Ryan has called for a "pause" in the U.S. program accepting Syrian refugees and 30 governors have said they will not welcome them, though they have little legal authority to bar the federal government from settling refugees in their states.

Trust me.
These various church based charities get paid to handle, feed, and shelter these ‘refugees’. So basically they’re in the human trafficking business.
Bought. Paid for.
Shut up padre. They’ll be coming for YOU first. Watch your head.
These Churches get paid to take these people in. It’s all a business for them.
For many it is, but some evangelicals are fixated on end times.
Fools
Both Indonesia & Malaysia are majority Islam nations with PLENTY of room. How many refugees are they taking?
We’re supposed to separate church and state.
So these bishops can go to Hell.
So if someone gets botulism from a can of beef, we’re not supposed to remove all the other cans of beef off of the shelf?
Traitors and Traitors, inc. How many tax dollars do these bastards get from the government per "refugee" that they bring in and cut loose in our country?
These anti-America, anti-American, Christianity-hating, freedom-hating, Terrorist-loving @$$h0les can go take a flying #### at a rolling donut.
And business is boomin'.
Are you accusing them of not being sincere?
I don't believe that. I've known lots of do-gooders in my day and they are sincere.
Their organizations may be in it for the money, but those sitting in the pews are sincerely trying to do something good.
Could there be a disconnect between leadership and the faithful?
Create a safe zone in Syria and settle them there.
Spot on. Follow the money. The government pays thousands per week per refugee.
Ship these refugees to Muslim majority nations and pay for them to be housed there.
Fine let the idiots take these ‘refugees’ into their own damn homes. Stupid priests. Kum-bah-freakin’-yah.
Let me guess, this is the PC crowd? Otherwise, why would anyone in their right mind, do this? I understand wanting to be “christian like” and good stewards to others, but considering the lack of verification and the types of “refugees” coming across, it’s a bad bad bad idea....regardless of which refugees say they are “christians”.
As well, might I point out all the homeless veterans that need refuge, that would be better served on our own soil? Shouldn’t THAT be our first concern, before placing UNKNOWN foreigners into a foreign land, where they don’t speak the language, or know the culture, etc? Wouldn’t it be better to place these Christian refugees in a better place, their own country?
Evangelicals do not want Syrian refugees brought into the country ... it is the looney lefty churches posing as evangelicals that want this .
Rick Warren , Bill Hibels etc are NOT evangelicals no matter what the news calls them
