The ring inscription features an abbreviation of the Shahadda (sp?):
“The only God is God, and Mohammed is his messenger”
But it’s not the whole thing.
Thank you for the explanation.
I remember, several years back, either during ramadan or one Duh Wons visits to the Middle East (some timeframe/place that had moslem significance) much was said about Barry NOT wearing his wedding band (and that he wore a ring before he married Michelle).
Makes me go “hmmmmmm”
there is no “correct” spelling in Roman letters of any Arabic word. Most of the sounds in Arabic are analagous to sounds in European languages but none are quite the same. There are multiple separate sounds, for instance that transliterate to Q or k. The word is spelled as sh d, two consonants. There are no written vowels. Different people indifferent countries pronounce the word, as with many Arabic words, with different vowels and different numbers of them. Shaheed is “correct” transliterion. So is “shahada” or even “ashahid.” Mohammed’s name in different accents is rendered in Latin letters as Mohammed, Mahmoud, Mahomet, Mehmed, Muhammad, Amhamet, and more. The vowels are mutable. Only the consonants are constant, well, most of the time.
There is no god but the Moon God, and a child molester is his prophet! (said with index finger pointing skyward and, ideally, with some severed heads in the background).
