Alonza Gonzalez was turning right near 59 and FM 762 several months ago but just recently received the dash camera video after he filed public records requests.
"Just because I have a handgun on me and a license to carry should not be a big deal, but that is what made it the turning point," Gonzalez said...
...Seconds later, Gonzalez was arrested: "You're under arrest for your traffic violations."
During an interview at his Rosenberg home, Gonzalez told Channel 2 he thinks if he didn't have a gun, things would have ended differently.
"If I didn't have my firearm on me, I would have had a citation and they would have let me go." Channel 2 called Rosenberg police several times and went by the department to get a comment on the story, but no one would speak with us...

Gonzalez said he wanted the arrest removed from his record and about $500 refunded for the cost of getting out of jail and getting his truck back.
Rosenberg police said the officer involved in the traffic stop resigned and is no longer with the department.
Sue, sue, sue! Even the lawyer haters here would want to sue.
I read the article and a lot of the comments. Some of those commenting said the guy was arrested because of unpaid fines. I did not get that from the article, unless that is what the cop meant when he said “you’re being arrested for your traffic violations”. Was he referring to past unpaid violations (in which case the arrest was valid), or did he mean the violation that Gonzales had just been committed?

Translation: By reciprocal agreement, another department in another town will take this bad apple in exchange for sending one of their own bad apples that had to ‘get outta Dodge’.
This happens way to often.
By asking a question, “Why have I been pulled over?”, the officer’s delicate snowflake ego was bruised.
Failure to grovel is a major crime.
What’s happened to Texas? Have they all become anti-gun whackos? Is Oklahoma still sane?
I fail to see why the arrogant LEO’s resigning frees Houston of resposibility. While they employed him, they owned him.
In everything, get back to basics. On the first day of football practice, the coach holds up the pigskin and announces, “This is a footbal.”
In a police department, the first and last thing a new hire should hear at orientation is, “Texas is a right to carry state. If any of you interfere with a legal citizen in any way, when they are lawfully carrying, any repercussions that result will be YOUR responsibility, up to and including lawsuits, forfeiture of pay, and/or termination of employment. There is sufficient mayhem in this municipality to keep you all occupied. There is no need to divert your efforts to harassing law abiding gun owners. THEY are on OUR side!”
Around here you don’t have to ask. When the LEO walks up the first thing they say is “Do you know why I pulled you over.” The standard response is “No” and then they tell you.
Resigning does not free them from responsibility. The LEO was an “agent” of the government at the time of the act. The immunity laws need to be changed given the changes in how the LEO interact with citizens. These low-dollar cases are the most annoying, because the legal fees cost more than the value of the assets sought to be returned. The government should pay ALL attorney fees for such egregious acts.
My Daughter was stopped last January and charged with "Felony Fleeing" or failure to stop. No underlying charge. She was on a stretch of feeder road under construction with exits barricaded that was down to one lane when the HPD cruiser turned on the lights. She continued until she could pull over at a spot wide enough to stop without blocking the busy traffic. The two male cops proceeded to pull firearms and do a full felony stop, including handcuffs and frisk.
I would not have believed her story except when we hired an attorney and he was able to get the dash cam video it happened exactly as described.
Cost was one night in jail; $550. to a bondsman for a $5,000.bond; $400. car impound; $5,000. Lawyer fee (friend of mine)and 5 trips to court, parking, loss of work etc.
End result was she had all charges dropped. This is the system we call justice.
About 20 years ago...
I had just taught my Drivers Ed. class that if you are not sure it is the police(especially for females) ..proceed to nearest police station or public place like a Mini-Mart to pull over....
I was called to serve on a jury.
Local good guy was on trial-Felony Fleeing- Good guy went a mile and a half too far...said the Texas DPS.
Many in the jury pool had already decided the good guy was innocent/ Felony would cause him to lose his job. I had to raise my hand and tell the District Attorney-(she is a former student( ; ) about what I had just taught my Driver Ed. students...and I was dismissed from the jury pool. The Good guy was found innocent by the local jury.
The Good guy did have to employ a lawyer...
Small town helps. Would hate to go through this.
One of the cops was Black. The victim was Mexican.
Too many LEO’s join because they enjoy the power trip. A result of the lowering standards for joining. So sad. Ruining what was a good thing.
That could get a little sticky. I thought the perp/complainant had a Mexican-sounding name. But the Tex-ico peoples and names are so intertwined that he could have a Texas/American family tree longer than the black cop does.
Yep, lots of Mexicans in Texas have been here more generations (but perhaps few years) than our family.
Cops are dangerous thugs with unlimited power.
