I recently telephoned police to help with a simple traffic accident I witnessed as a BYSTANDER and for them to send help. The officers KNEW in advance the person (me) who called-in the request for assistance was wearing khaki shorts, hiking boots, red hiking socks, and a bright red wool sweater...since I heard their dispatch radioing that very same clothing description to responding officers while I was still on the phone.

I was standing outside my vehicle as they approached.
I began to walk towards the cruisers as they rolled-up and received the crazed "GET THE FU*K BACK INTO YOUR VEHICLE, NOW!" command as they exited. This was at a simple fender-bender where I had just stopped as a motorist because I was an impartial witness. The two other drivers were totally cool and were exchanging information. Nobody was fighting or even raising their voices.

Had I accidentally stumbled, reached for my phone, suffered a muscle spasm, or anything else unexpected...that 'roid-raging maniac with the vein bulging out of his forehead would have drawn his service weapon and shot me. It was a surreal and life-changing experience. I will never, ever willingly help another police officer again in my life.

Contemporary police officers are completely drunk with power.

I witnessed a vehicle smash into a store. The driver of the vehicle saw me and drove off. So I called 911. Many, many years ago.

When the cop showed up, he asked me if I did it. I replied, ‘Do you think I would actually hang around for you guys to show up for 10 minutes if I was the guy? I said, no, I’m am the guy who CALLED you guys’.

Good gosh.

A week or two later I visited the store. Didn’t even get a ‘thank you’ for saving their merchandise. Ingrates. Well, they’ve been out of business a long time now.

Amazing world we live in.

” It was a surreal and life-changing experience. I will never, ever willingly help another police officer again in my life.”

There are very few situations in this life that cannot be made worse, by the addition of the police.

No excuse for the attitude, but cops have been set up on enough occasions, sometimes killed, that they don't trust anyone.

You say you were dressed in "khaki shorts, hiking boots, red hiking socks, and a bright red wool sweater"

Hell, I might have drawn down on you myself.

RED SOCKS?!?

This doesn't have anything to do with yodeling does it?

(just kidding lol)

Or, if you had hesitated, you would have had more holds in you than a slab of Swiss cheese. You respect their authority or they will rapidly fill you full of lead.

Some people are perfectly law-abiding, tax-paying, friendly, and decent folks who have a chance meeting as an innocent BYSTANDER with a crazed, thuggish, steroid-using maniac police officer and THAT is what changes opinions.

Good cops do exist. Here’s my story. I hit a deer, it was still alive. A fellow motorist phoned the cops, asked what to do. The cop said shoot the deer and have the driver report back to the station.

I hauled out my 40 caliber and wasted the deer on a US Highway.

I reported to the station. The cop met me at the door and wanted my drivers license and registration. The license was in my wallet in a cardboard box on the passenger seat. I asked him to shine his flashlight in there so I could find it.

As I rummaged through this box, my loaded 40 caliber along with a loaded 357 were really obvious.

The cop just did not care about the guns.

This happened in western ND in 2007. Had this happened in the NE states I’d still be in jail.

Jonascord...see my post# 12 about a recent police encounter where I could have lost my life (at the hands of a steroid-raging officer) for being a BYSTANDER at a fender-bender.

You are absolutely correct officers are burning through decades of Officer Friendly goodwill at record pace.

Here you go, Wyrd.

Recent example where my life flashed in front of my eyes thanks to a steroid-fueled, raging, police officer.
I was just a BYSTANDER to a fender-bender of other motorists.
Previous to this encounter, my last interaction with a police officer was nearly thirty years ago for driving 12 m.p.h. over the limit on an interstate highway.
