I think Rove would back anyone over Trump. Trump is about as anti-establishment as you can get and he is no friend of the GOPe.

Carson would be controllable. Trump (and Cruz to a lesser extent cause he needs the money) is not controllable by anyone.

Because they think they can control him and he has started to show his real stripes that are not totally conservative.

Because he knows that none of the GoPeeers are going to make it and it looks to them that Carson can be co-opted. Or he still has the mistaken notion that Carson can “take out’ Trump and/or Cruz.
