Convention of States Resolution Pre-Filed in Virginia

I am excited to announce that our sponsor, Delegate Scott Lingamfelter, has officially pre-filed the Convention of States resolution in Virginia for the 2016 session of the General Assembly! Our resolution will be known as House Joint Resolution 3, or HJ3, and you can read it here.

In a nutshell, the resolution calls for an amendment-proposing convention of the states under Article V of the U.S. Constitution, limited to proposing amendments that do one of three things: (1) impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, (2) limit the power and jurisdiction of the federal government, or (3) set term limits for federal officials (including federal judges).

But WAIT! There's MORE!

As you may recall, during the 2015 legislative session, several Virginia legislators expressed concerns about how the process would actually work once 34 state legislatures file applications and the Article V convention is triggered.

We listened. We heard them. And now we have addressed their concerns in black and white.

As the legislatures move into active sessions once again, we hope to see more momentum build for a Convention of States!

Who in the hell do you trust with the Constitution. I have no doubt that we let the current politicians in this county anywhere near the Constitution with an eraser, you and I will come away with no rights at all and no republic. They have been doing it for years with the “Living Constitution” crap they have peddled.

Convention of States? not no but hell no!

"Who in the hell do you trust with the Constitution."

The socialist state and local government employees pushing it, of course. We can trust them, because they get heaps of federal pork to be the best.

That's the ironic, sarcastic answer. Here's the plain, sincere answer.

OpenSecrets.org
American Fedn of St/Cnty/Munic Employees [State/County/Municipal Employees]
[Total Contributions:] $94,708,977
[To Dems & liberals:] $93,739,954
[To Repubs & Conservs:] $671,755
[Pct to Dems & liberals:] 99%
[Pct to Repubs & Conservs:] 1%

They know that the default process is about to cut their monstrous salaries and pensions, so they're conspiring to take over and rule as a faction of fascist dictators.

Many...Some...Of the folks calling for an Article V Convention may be doing so for the best of motives...Then again, maybe not...

Not something I want to gamble with...Our current Constitution is a marvel...What We The People must do is insist it be enforced...And clean up our own houses first...

“Who in the hell do you trust with the Constitution.”

There’s nothing wrong with the current Constitution. There is no way you can say the words people voted on 200 years ago mean something different today. I know I’m preaching to the choir.

If the rulers wish to try to pass an amendment that says they can search without a warrant, seize property or the value without compensation, or draw a square in the desert where we can speak our minds I don’t think they would get too much support.

Ya’ll better listen to Irdg. These folks ignore the COTUS (not all, but far too many). They will blot out free speech, religious liberty, and wait......2nd Amendment.

I took the trouble to examine the source that you put up as support for your point of view and found it to be utterly preposterous. Here is but one example of the lunacy of the source:

We KNOW, from Mark Levin’s “liberty amendments” and from Michael Farris’ “parental rights” amendment, that they want an all-powerful central government which controls every aspect of our lives.

I have never encountered a single rational argument from a conservative in opposition to the article 5 convention states movement.

A resolution identical to the language passed by Georgia, Alabama, Florida and Alaska has been introduced in the Virginia legislature.

When conservatives object to a Convention of the States more often than not it is motivated by a fixation on their right to keep and bear arms. Any analysis of the arithmetic of passing an amendment restricting the right to keep her bare arms makes absolutely plain that such a runaway development is so remote a possibility as to be discounted. It would require only thirteen state legislatures from ninety-nine legislatures to oppose such an amendment!

The opposition by NRA members to a Convention of the States is so irrational, so impractical as to border on being paranoid. In their paranoia, those who want to go up apackin' would sacrifice every other right in the Bill of Rights and watch the Republic slide over the cliff of bankruptcy.

There are even a few who would welcome some sort of civil uprising rather than a rational and peaceful method to restore the Constitution by means which are actually authorized by the Constitution. The idea that in this modern age we can win a civil war against the United States government equipped with a monopoly of drones, lasers, nuclear weapons, electric grids, water, medicine, communications, food supplies etc. is delusional but fits into the paranoia.

Tyranny isn't at our doorstep; its inside our house.

To reject a convention of states constitutes passive acceptance of Obama’s transformation.

Art, would you please post your list of reference Article V links to lrdg and elteemike?

"There’s nothing wrong with the current Constitution."

I disagree. The lack of term limits for Congress is a fault and lifetime appointments to the courts was a good experiment, but it hasn't worked.

The 17th Amendment was another error that needs correcting.

Congress is not going to fix these problems. The states need to reassert control via a process that was INCLUDED IN THE CONSTITUTION BY THE FRAMERS for exactly this situation.

“Utterly absurd”...”Lunacy”...”I have never encountered a single rational argument from a conservative in opposition to the article 5 convention states movement.”

Therefore, no rational argument or cause for concern can exist?

I respect you have a difference of opinion, and do not desire a flame war on FR...So I guess we should agree we disagree and leave it at that...

When the Mainstream Media gets wise to what is happening behind the scenes, they will publish disinformation and scare articles intended to panic low information voters to scuttle the convention. The longer they stay in the dark, the better.
