Ben Carson calls San Bernardino shooting a 'hate crime' - explaining 'you don’t do that to people you love'

Ben Carson labeled yesterday's California shooting as a 'hate crime' when he talked to reporters in South Carolina Asked to clarify what that meant, the retired neurosurgeon said, 'you don't do that to people you love' A hate crime generally means that the perpetrators were motivated by prejudice - but a motive hasn't been uncovered for the shooting Carson also tweeted out support for the victims and their families Presidential hopeful Ben Carson suggested that yesterday's shooting in San Bernardino was a 'hate crime' during a news conference in South Carolina.

'Look at what happened again. Another hate crime in San Bernardino today,' Carson said yesterday, according to ABC News. 'That these 14 people killed. Less than a week ago, we had the shooting in Colorado and then look at all the things going on around the world – ISIS and groups like this.'

'Just hate and evil. We need to be able to combat these things or else we will melt into despair and that’s not who we are,' the candidate continued.

When asked to clarify what he meant by 'hate crime,' it became apparent that Carson may have a non-traditional definition for the term.

Hate crimes typically mean that the perpetrators – the multiple shooters in this case – were motivated by prejudice.

It's often used when a crime is sexist or racist in nature, or homophobic.

Carson had a much simpler definition.

'Well it’s hard to imagine that you would shoot a bunch of people and not hate them, right?' Carson mused. 'You don’t do that to people you love.'

The writer is a bit dim.

Can’t argue with Dr.Carson. It was a hateful crime, indeed.

The bigger issue is why “hate crime” is any more heinous than cold-blooded crime. It’s a ridiculous designation.

Recall W’s comment re: the Byrd murder case in Texas, in which the perps had already been convicted of capital murder when federal hate crime laws were discussed: “What do you want to do, kill them twice?”

I could ask this question on other threads related to this incident. Since the Confederate flag and “Dukes of Hazzard” were considered inappropriate following the Charleston church shooting, what flag or symbol or TV show will now be called out as inappropriate or promotes hatred, etc?

I never liked the liberal designation of a hate crime. If a person is murdered, their life isn’t more valuable because the murderer didn’t like the color of their skin. When Bush was governor and some white guys killed a black guy, reporters were trying to make a big thing out the fact that they weren’t tried for hate crime. He just stated that they received the death penalty, so there was no more justice the victim could’ve received.

I’l stick with a thousand years of Anglo-American law: a crime is a joint union of act and intent.
Nothing more is needed, no “thoughtcrime” so the left can start shipping actual Americans off in cattle cars.

CA Penal Code: 20. In every crime or public offense there must exist a union, or joint operation of act and intent, or criminal negligence.

21a. An attempt to commit a crime consists of two elements: a specific intent to commit the crime, and a direct but ineffectual act done toward its commission.

Dismiss him on all his stupid stuff.

Same with Bernie Sanders; he was right that all lives matter.
