The day after the horrific shooting in San Bernardino, Paul J. Van Blarcum thought it was about time to remind Americans to take advantage of their Second Amendment rights. Van Blarcum is the current sheriff of Ulster County, New York.
He issued a statement on Facebook encouraging those who are licensed to carry firearms to "please do so," along with telling fellow police officers, both retired and on active duty, to carry their guns every time they leave their homes.
"We are the thin blue line that is entrusted in keeping this country safe, and we must be prepared to act at any given moment," he said.

He also urged his constituents to invoke their Second Amendment rights, learn proper gun safety, their carry rights, and other laws concerning firearms in the state of New York saying, "I urge you to responsibly take advantage of your legal right to carry a firearm. To ensure the safety of yourself and others, make sure you are comfortable and proficient with your weapon."
Sheriff Van Blarcum told a local CBS News affiliate that this wasn't intended to spark a debate:
"All I was doing as reminding people that here in Ulster County, if you are a licensed hand gun owner, and you feel comfortable carrying that handgun, youâre proficient with that handgun, and you're responsible with that handgun, then I encourage you to carry that handgun," he said.
This isn't the first time a member of law enforcement was pleased to see law-abiding citizens exercising their Second Amendment rights. In February, a couple being pulled over for speeding in Ohio, presented their concealed carry permits upon the police officer's request for their driver's license and registration. In Ohio, CCW holders are required by law to inform the police that they're armed if approached.
"I'm happy to see more people with their CCWs [concealed carry weapons permit], especially with the world becoming the way it is," the officer said.
He then sent the couple on their way.
You must endure many pop-ups and much adware if you go to the link.
The most interesting fact given at the link is this: the Sheriff is a Democrat, at least according to the Associated Press.
The rest of you don’t let f@tard socialists dictate what Bill Of Right Amendments are available to you...
Excellent point
I just have to chuckle about this.
Woodstock is in Ulster County.
I wonder what the ole hippies have to say about this and do they “carry”. Flower power, peace et al.
If he is a democrat than he is one of the rare good ones that are still around.
HOORAY Paul J. Van Blarcum

The New York Slimes made big news with an opposing statement, an editorial on their front page. Invited Isis right on in.
NY Sheriff Tells Residents Who Are Licensed To Carry Firearms To ‘Please Do So’
Thank God America is awakening.
Van Blarcum is the current sheriff of Ulster County, New York, and he is ringing the wake up bell.
So is Sheriff Clarke of Milwaukee County. The only way he can get elected.
Ulster County, NY is mostly rural.
Sheriff Clarke is certainly a conservative. There can be no doubt about it.
It’s also very close to Hancock NY or the national Muslim training center.

Smith and Wesson 442, all the way!
Seems like it would have been easier to call the 5 people licensed to carry in NY.
There are lot of practical things a Sheriff can do to encourage an armed public. For example provide free range time as well as expert instructors, so that novice and infrequent gun users can get some practice in.
A big plus would be to throw in a gun maintenance seminar, as many people don’t know how to clean and properly store their guns. If the Sheriff was extra ambitious, he could put a lot of people through the gun use video simulator.
So if necessary the sheriff can call up a local militia.
Playing ‘Devils Advocate’ here, do I have to ask what would happen to me if traveling through Ulster County NY in possession of my legally owned, pistol - complete with VA CCW Permit?
This idiot Gov in VA recently put ALL Govt facilities off limits to CCW holders AND off duty cops - By edict NOT legislatively.
Hmm wonder if that applies to Public Housing???? Would ‘allow’ them to go in and clear up a lot of ‘trash’.
BUT you know they aren’t ‘concerned’ with the carriers without a permit - of course not much can be done about people who don’t follow laws to begin with.
I think him including Off duty Cops is so he will have a bone to throw back at the people who grab their pitchforks and tar pots and wagons loaded with feathers and descend on the state house.
But mCaWFUL will probably be at ‘home’ in NC or with HRC.
I live in a rural portion of a very conservative county. When I went to town in the past, I never thought to carry. Now I do. Not that I think anything’s going to happen but I would be highly embarrassed to post on FR the next day if it did.
