A Marine veteran who fought in Fallujah was attacked by an airman who believed he was lying about serving in the Corps. It happened over the weekend at The Long Shot, an Arden-area bar, according to CBS Sacramento.
The Marine veteran, Michael Delfin says he tried to show the airman his ID, but he believed he was looking for a fight.
"I noticed a guy had a fade and he asked me if I was in the service and he said, 'Yeah, I'm in the Air Force,' and I said, 'Oh I was in the Corps,'" he said.
The airman was looking for an active duty CAC card, but since Delfin was a veteran, he only had this VA card - he was accused of lying about serving on the spot.
"So, I asked him to read my ID, and he was like nahh stolen valor, stolen valor; this guy's a fake," he said. "He's ignorant. He needs to learn how to read an ID, plain and simple," he said. "When a vet tells you he's a vet and he's obviously wearing a fallen brothers bracelet doesnât even recognize that."
Things started turning ugly and the Delfin tried leaving, but was jumped in the parking lot by the airman and one of his friends.
"And before I knew it I couldn't get off the ground. My leg gave out; it was kind of a blur," Delfin said.
Delfin's tibia is broken, and his jaw might be too.
"I did over 12 years in the Marine Corps; I was a tracker and I was in combat in 2004 in Fallujah," he said.
"Because everybody that's in the service does their job, but when you go to combat it's a different thing, so to claim on me I'm stolen valor, that's a slap in every veteran's face," he said. "He needs to get caught. He needs to get made an example of, plain and simple."
It's pure BS.
Just take a picture if you think it is stolen. NO need to beat someone up. Prayers for the Marine and justice for the airmen and cohort.
The airedale was probably a paper pusher or hangar wh_re.
I carry a copy of my discharge in my glove box. We never got issued no stinking ID cards. That airboy would get no love from this ol’ boy. Jerk.
Please, no need to insult!
Air Force pukes are "Zoomies".
Naval Aviators (and enlisted aircrew) are "Airedales".
the fact that it was not a heat of the moment argument about service says something about the jerk. he waited till the marine vet was in the parking lot leaving to attack with the help of a buddy. I think the two men that attacked him just wanted to pound some one, any one and military service was an excuse.
Reminds me of the time a pal of mine (former SC Marine) got into it with a Cali Marine at a biker club in the S.Dallas county boonies. Both had proof, still just beat the crap out of each other until they both were just physically wore down.
Yes. I was in a hurry and did not catch my error.
Airdales are Navy serving on Carriers.
We called the Airmen ‘Zoomies’ in the Corps..............
When they catch the zoomie my idea of punishment would be for the zoomie to wash the Marines car and cut his yard and trim the hedges for a year. And have him wear a sign around his neck stating that he was a dickhaid to a Fallujah Marine.
I join in your prayers for the Marine and for justice for the jerks who beat him up.
I think the real problem is that the airman is a dumbsXXt aXXhole.
Our three sons served with the USMC at Fallujah, November 2004. The airman probably has no idea of the “significance” of Fallujah.
We used to call them “Island Marines” and “Hollywood Marines”.
I never took “Airedale” as any kind of insult, but never got pissed at being called a “squid”, either.
In this case, the Air Force guy sounds like a complete idiot.
Spot on. That guy should be forced to read and do a book report on the book “No True Glory”.and present it verbally to the Marine he accosted.
There are jerks in each branch, but in my experience I’ve had to suffer an exceptional concentration in the AF. On the other hand I’ve worked with top notch airmen.
