Trump: Oil companies dictate Cruz’s policies
The Hill ^ | 12/11/2015 | Caitlin Yilek

After a week of tension between the two Republican presidential candidates, front-runner Donald Trump took a shot at Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) on Friday, saying that “oil companies pay him a lot of money.”

“With ethanol [Cruz has] gotta come a long way,” Trump said in Des Moines, Iowa. "He’s right now for the oil. But I understand if oil pays him a lot of money, he’s gotta be for oil. Right?” “But I’m with you,” Trump told his supporters, noting he toured ethanol plants in Iowa last month.

"If Ted Cruz is against ethanol, how does he win in Iowa," Trump asked.

The billionaire businessman also slammed Cruz as a copycat.

“The one guy that is doing pretty good with me in Iowa is Ted Cruz,” Trump said. "Everything I say, he agrees with me. No matter what I say.”

He later seemed to take a shot at Cruz's background.

“I do like Ted Cruz, but not a lot of evangelicals come out of Cuba,” Trump said. “But I like him nonetheless.”

Trump is a blowhard. Cruz is going to kick his teeth in on Feb 1st in Iowa. Just watch. Trump’s aura of invincibility will then be gone and his campaign starts to crumble. Cruz is showing restraint, which is a sign of true strength. No wonder Trump is starting to fear him.

“If Ted Cruz is against ethanol, how does he win in Iowa,” Trump asked.

He wins by not pandering and by sticking to his principles even if it would cost him votes. And it's working. I know. It's just a little bit over Donald Trump's head.

I’m not exactly saying donors do not influence. I am more of the opinion that donors give to the person who is already on their side. Certainly I would never give to someone who was not already on my side. BUT, if corruption is there, it is with the already corrupt. Just as a gun in the hands of a murderer becomes a tool for evil, a donation in the hands of a corrupt politician becomes a tool for injustice. It is all about CHARACTER. We used to know that. Elect an honest, moral, respectable person and hopefully he stays that way. Elect a known liar, cheater, scammer, and you get who knows what, but whatever it is, you deserve it.

He wins by not pandering (to ethanol)

You missed the part where he is apparently pandering and beholden to big oil. Somebody can look this up.

It's why The Donald paid off both Dems and Repubs.

He makes billions off the taxpayers backs, buying the corrupt politicians he needs to get special treatment. Now he says he wants to become one of those politicians to clean up the system.

The funny thing is there are people who believe him!

"It is idiotic economic and social policy to support burning food for fuel. It's the epitome of cronyism, malinvestment, and inefficient government. Trump of all people should realize this. "

Yep. But it's a winner in Iowa.

Trump can make folks look at the other shiny thing later after he gets closer to his goal.

Fact checking here... A snip from the Houston Chronicle:

"Renewable fuel advocates note that despite Cruz's statements about ending oil subsidies - estimated at $20.5 billion annually - donors associated with the oil and gas industry have pumped more than $25 million into his campaign and the Super PACs that support him."

That's whole lotta big $$ for Cruz from the oil and gas industry.

Cruz should make sure next time when he talks in private to donors that no one records it. Trying to deny a recording is not exactly good judgment.
