“Maybe it was because the guy who signed their paycheck wanted it that way. Do you think Detroit and Chicago happened by accident?”

True. In the case of Schamburg, the mayor and other leaders were big RINO’s. They’d never free the police up to actually police crime. Much better to have them out there culling the general populace for money. No revenue from section-8 types, so why bother with them?

“No revenue from section-8 types, so why bother with them?”

That’s the conundrum. Cops won’t go into high crime areas to make arrests, because it’s (gasp!) dangerous!

During a meeting between cop leaders and my Neighborhood Watch group, we wanted to know why we couldn’t get something as basic as regular patrols, as a deterrent, in our neighborhood.
We had thugs openly trafficking drugs, and 911 calls brought sporadic, slow response. The dealers would disappear like cockroaches, then come right back.
We wanted to know, why did an upscale, no-crime area area nearby have constant, 24/7 patrols, while our high crime area got none ?
The PD captain actually blurted, “Well, those officers are working paid detail. The people in that neighborhood pay extra for that service.”
So the name of the game was to get paid twice—a tax-funded salary, plus paid detail, often as not during the same shift—while avoiding having to actually confront criminals or brawl with thugs.
As an added bonus, those double-paid details never, ever resulted in claims of racial harassment.
