Sir, Rule Number III is ALWAYS applicable. I can’t tell you the number of investigations I’ve read where terrible accidents occurred because a man trips, becomes distracted or any number of reasons and negligently discharges his firearm. In fact; We slightly modified the four safety rules to reflect:
I. Treat all weapons as loaded at all times
II. Never Point a Weapon at anything you do not intent to shoot
III Never remove the Safety until you are ready to fire
IV. Never place your finger on the trigger until you cover your target and ready to fire.
Always keep the trigger finger straight and out of the trigger guard until you are ready to actually fire the weapon
While combat sighting, you keep both eyes open and bring the weapon up to the target, you to keep your finger on the trigger from the point of first contact.
Maybe he was done cleaning it and he set it on the table but the EVIL gun was pissed and attacked him for no reason. Notice nobody dared to say whether it was a “Black” assault weapon or a friendly silver one.

I was a Swift Boat sailor in Viet Nam and the shotguns were finally removed from the boats due to the numerous ADs.
But then, sailors and small arms can always be “problematic”.
My brother,served on swifts, manned the twin 50’s.

On the other hand if you see them in public, they have self identified as ones to avoid.

Well, his sex life just got cut in half.
It takes two hands to remove the slide from a Glock, and the position your hands are in for slide removal make it impossible to shoot yourself in a hand. One hand is on the grip, the other is directly over the slide depressing two small and tight levers on both sides. It’s not easily done.

They were good boats; got a tour of San Diego Bay on a restored boat a couple of months ago...brought back a lot of memories plus my wife finally got to see a real Swift Boat instead of a bunch of old slides.
