The Communications Workers of America (CWA) union has endorsed Bernie Sanders for president.

The union said the Vermont senator, running to be the Democratic candidate for president against former secretary of state Hillary Clinton and former Maryland governor Martin O'Malley, would be a candidate who would "break with politics-as-usual and fight for America’s working people..."

CWA's 700,000 members include broadcast and cable journalists.

"When CWA endorses a candidate it is just the beginning. Our 700,000 members are fired up, and we are going to work overtime to elect Bernie Sanders as the next President of the United States," said CWA President Chris Shelton in announcing the endorsement.

Sanders is not really a Democrat,he's a socialist.I doubt there will be 700,000 jobs available at the new Ministry of Propaganda.

They should be banned from endorsing or giving campaign $$ to anyone.

The CWA backs Bernie but the rank and file will vote for Trump.

Union Signals Members Will Campaign for...Socialist.

Wonder if the membership voted on this and, if so, whether any of membership was gently coerced or enticed with favoritism? Perhaps at the core, it was the brainchild of the paid-off union management? Probably both. (Based on brief experience with the AFofL-CIO.)

I was forced to pay my dues to the CWA and proudly reminded them on every occasion I could that they don’t control my vote. Nope, they did not like me.

As a former CWA member and shop steward I can tell you the 700,000 members will not follow lock step behind this endorsement. The only thing this does is allocate members dues money to a candidate they wouldn’t support if rank-and-file was given a choice.

Excuse me, you and I are not being politically correct. He is after all, running as a Democrat. </snort>

You are correct. The headline doesn’t say they will vote for, it says they will campaign for.

Your other point is right on, it used to burn my butt that they would use my dues in an effort to counter my vote.

Our entire Local here in Yuma AZ is made up of retired and former military. The only reason we belong to the CWA is because we have to, these clowns got our contract declared a Federal Enclave because AZ is a right to work state. Not a single one of us is a Dem. The CWA bigwigs hate us with a passion. It pisses them off to no end that we have the lowest grievance rate in the country, and we cooperate with management.

No. I think every paper, headline, etc. should be followed by a ‘by-line’ of whom and how much they ‘donated’.

Then, it’s a simple matter of reading the $$ line to determine just how in-the-tank the supposed ‘independent’ journalist claims to be.

And why, IMO, my law of “No donation of any type (monetary, material, support, logistics, etc.) may be given to any govt entity unless one can physically cast a vote.” would never be passed.

No unions, no PACs, no foundations...Only PEOPLE, with up to the second record keeping and tracing. Any failure of record keeping is immediate dismissal/drop-out, a fine of no less than $1M\violation (adjusted for inflation), to be paid directly by the person.

Bernie is a good disciple of their ideology whereas Hillary Clinton is mostly for promoting Hillary Clinton and just uses the ideology as a backdrop rather than the centerpiece.
