Bill Cosby was charged Wednesday with felony assault over an alleged encounter with a woman 12 years ago.
"We are here to announce today charges that have just been filed against William Henry Cosby. These charges stem from a sexual assault that took place on an evening in early 2004," Montgomery County district attorney Kevin Steel said in a press conference. "Mr. Cosby is charged with aggravated indecent assault. This is a felony charge."
Cosby is expected to be arraigned on the charge this afternoon in Elkins Park, Pa.

My first thought politically is that this hurts Hillary

I’m assuming the charges in this case are listed incorrectly in these reports. Pennsylvania has a 5-year statute of limitations for assault.

Just heard on WMAL that the victim twice earlier rejected his advances, met with him a third time and took the pills and booze he gave her. This should make for an “interesting” trial.

The 12-year SOL in PA is for rape, not assault. So either the reports are inaccurate or the announcement from the DA’s office was poorly worded.

Under certain circumstances a statute of limitations period may “toll”, meaning to suspend, for the period of time while the plaintiff is legally barred from prosecuting the lawsuit.
