Following the terrorist attack in San Bernardino, CBS News took a closer look at guns in America - particularly, which states had the most 'heavy arms' per capita.

Their list is based entirely on the 2013 census and the ATF's National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record. The ATF record - which doesn't include pistols - covers the sale and transfer of the following weapons:

1. machine guns

2. short-barreled rifles and shotguns,

3. suppressors

4. destructive devices like bombs and grenades

5. concealable devices with the ability to discharge a shot through the energy of an explosive

6. any firearm with a bore over half an inch that has not been determined to have a legitimate sporting use.

Here's the ranking:

Are these "registered" firearms?

List doesn’t seem to cover pistols of any type, nor standard long rifles. The list is therefore of little value in determining the most heavily-armed state.

How do they know? They wouldn’t be keeping track now would they?

They have to be registered or some qualifier.

Otherwise there is NO way Washington DC could be number 2 on that list.

Oh BTW, Wyoming? Holy heck, you boys and girls do some major league packing!

It is of value. More than likely, if you own one of those you probably own pistols and rifles as well.

In other words, a partial list of what our police departments deploy.

Yes, these are registered weapons, not basic firearms that one buys across the counter with a NICS check. These require Chief Law Enforcement Officer approval ( County Sherriff, City PD, Chief) and a tax stamp with application approved before transfer to the individual occurs.

There should in fact be no record of who in what state purchases what non-registered/National Firearms Act (of 1934) items like rifles pistol and shotguns.

5. Virginia: 30.1 guns per 1,000 residents

******************************************

I’m sure this is very “disturbing” to those disgusting Libs Gov. Terry McAwful & AG ‘Red’ Herring.

re:They wouldn’t be keeping track now would they?

It is my understanding that the FBI is not legally allowed to keep the records after they ran the background check.
BUT...............................
Trusting the Federals can be very dangerous to your freedom and health.

Verify BEFORE Trust!

I wouldn’t trust those traitors as far as I could throw them.

This report is full of bunk and worthless. Many households are armed and have been for generations with firearms not included on any “registered” list. How about rifles, shotguns, and pistols handed down for generations? How about “War Souvenirs” brought home by veterans of wars since the beginning of the 20th century and never declared? Far too many ifs, ands, and buts, for this article to mean anything.

This data doesn’t stand up.

If every state were as armed as Wyoming, America would only have 64 million firearms.

Since the more informed estimate is that there is at least one firearm per American, this report doesn’t mean much.

There is no database that could account for more than half of my weapons.
(because they don’t know which lake I lost them in....)

Of course they are tracking them everytime a background check is conducted. They will never admit it to the public though

“5. Virginia: 30.1 guns per 1,000 residents”

Not even close in my neighborhood, if regular firearms are thrown in. Then it’s probably closer to 1:1.

And I live in northern Virginia.

So there’s only 45 states now?

How would they even know the number?? Oh, its magic—or they’re tracking guns and have lied about it?
