Students on Cabrillo College Nursing Programâs waiting list are postponing their careers for six years or more due to high demand and a new state-approved application called the multicriteria selection process.
While aspiring nurses are no longer being added to Cabrilloâs waiting list, hundreds remain on it, each hoping to nab one of only 60 slots available every year.

Disabilities Low family income Disadvantaged social or educational environment Dificult personal and family situations or circumstances Refugee or veteran status Proficiency or advanced level course work in languages other than English.
In other words if you are a Caucasian American citizen don't bother applying.
Perfect timing for Obama to try and shut down the Little Sisters of the poor.
Silly. Out of a possible total of 75 points on the screening form the Life Experiences/Special Circumstances category counts for a maximum of 5.
If you score at least 45 out of the 75, which you can do by having relevant experience and good academic history, you get put into the lottery.
Citizenship and race aren't even asked about on the screening form so I don't know why you think they matter.
Gee willikers. Get out of Kalifornia, move to Taxachusetts and apply to Salem State College in Salem, MA. They have a top notch nursing program and there is no waiting list. If you have the grades and can ace an interview, you can get in easily.
I don't think CA is the problem here. This is a community college with a very small (60 student) nursing program that is popular and over-subscribed.
There are plenty of available nursing school slots in the state.
Years ago, an aspiring nurse had to take many tests and interviews to ascertain they were suited for the profession. Salaries were very low and most of the nurses really cared about people.
Now anyone can take some college courses and make $$$ even if they don’t give a rip about the people, take drugs, overdo alcohol etc. Have a look at the State Board of Nursing for your state and see how many licenses have to be removed. Times have changed.
Hopefully this policy will be nixed with a CRUZ or TRUMP Presidency.
