After an LSU football player was stabbed at a Tigerland bar early Tuesday, head coach Les Miles ordered the entire team to stay out of nightclubs.

LSU tight end Dillon Gordon was stabbed multiple times about 12:45 a.m. Tuesday at Reggie’s bar, prompting LSU coach Les Miles to say later that day he plans to ban players from venturing to bars.

“I’m cutting it off,” Miles said at Tuesday’s news conference. “It’s just not worth it. The reason you go out is because you want social interaction. Social interaction can take place at home, at class, can take place at a number of places. You don’t have to go to a fight night club.”

Gordon, a 22-year-old senior tight end and three-year starter for the Tigers, was taken to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center with nonlife-threatening cuts, said Baton Rouge police spokesman Lt. Don Kelly, and was released Tuesday from the hospital.

Gordon tweeted about 4 a.m., “Thank you Lord it just wasn’t my time.”

Miles released a statement on Gordon minutes before the team announced its new defensive coordinator, Dave Aranda, at a news conference.

“I am aware that Dillon Gordon was involved in an incident last night that required him to receive medical attention,” Miles said in the statement. “Fortunately, the injuries Dillon sustained were not life-threatening and from all indications, he will make a full recovery. We are thankful that Dillon is okay.”

LSU receiver Jazz Ferguson on Tuesday morning tweeted, “Prayers for the bull,” Gordon’s nickname.

The wounds to Gordon were not serious.

That s dumb. You cannot tell college kids to stay away from bars.

He may as well ban them from seeing women. It would be just as effective.

In other news, every other SEC team got an instant recruiting boost

What’s dumb about it?

Coach finds out you were at a bar - you don’t play.

Now. If said player is a hot shot star, and the Athletic Director overturns the coaches decision (with lots of alumni support) then that’s a different story.

He can’t ban them from bars because he doesn’t own the bars. He can only prohibit them from going to the bars.

Miles almost got fired by the AD this year. He probably figures he’s a short timer at this point, anyway.

The coach from TCU should adopt this policy.
