A Baltimore Sun columnist wrote in a Thursday op-ed that citizens who legally own firearms are more frightening than the criminals who use the weapons on the rough streets of her hometown.
Tricia Bishop, deputy editorial page editor for the Baltimore paper, explained how billboards advertisements for guns and everyday Americans carrying them around made her sick.
“I’m less afraid of the criminals wielding guns in Baltimore… than I am by those permitted gun owners,” Bishop said.
She says this because she believes as a middle-class white woman, she’s shielded from her city’s criminal element but, in her opinion, she’s not protected from her neighbors’ legally-purchased weapons.
“I have the luxury of being white and middle class in a largely segregated city that reserves most of its shootings for poor, black neighborhoods overtaken by ‘the game,'” she wrote. “But I don’t know where the legal gun owners are or how to ensure that their children, no matter how well versed in respecting firearms, won’t one day introduce that weapon to my daughter.”

And compare it by spending a day at a typical big-city gun show where thousands of legal gun owners are handling thousands of guns in close proximity for hours on end - and the only “incidents” are from people like her sneaking live rounds into cleared chambers for the express purpose of causing an “accident”.
I feel sorry her daughter has her for a mother.

Usually, natural selection breeds this type of stupidity out of the gene pool. She’ll end up getting shot by a gun-wielding criminal and while she’s bleeding out, tell him that she understands why he did it and that she’s just thankful that some Tea Party type didn’t do it.
I hope her daughter is much less paranoid than her loony mother. It would be great if she grew up to be a gun owner and a very good shot.
What a dumb statement to make
Interesting. For years now I have not taken my gun into California because I have a much greater fear of the state government than the criminals. A criminal will take your stuff once. The state of California will screw with you for the rest of your life.
