I’ve been supportive of Cruz and would vote for him if he’s the nominee, despite leaning more Trump. I have given a lot of thought to the matter and believe that there are scenarios under which he can be eligible. However, being so dismissive of this is somewhat disturbing. We have, in 2008, an example of great lengths being gone to regarding eligibility for McCain, born abroad to two citizen parents. We also have Obama, born in Hawaii to a citizen mother an an alien father, that engendered quite a bit of controversy that lingers to this day. Now, we have a candidate born abroad to a citizen mother and an alien father. There are questions and doubts, and rightfully so. Can Cruz be deemed eligible? I believe so, if there are no legitimate claims upon him from any foreign jurisdiction. That has not been determined, though, and all the flippant dismissals in the world won’t change it if the matter is pursued by a party with standing to do so.
Moreover, we have to deal with the federal courts, which have been so stacked over the years that even if Mr. Cruz is plainly in the right, he may still be ruled against.
