Heading into Christmas, Ted Cruz had emerged as the clear favorite to kick off the Republican nominating contest with a victory in Iowa. He was racking up endorsements from evangelical leaders/kingmakers and was starting to pull away in state polls. But with less than three weeks to go until the GOP caucus, Cruz now has real reason to worry.
The latest sign Iowa could come down to the wire between him and Donald Trump comes via a new Des Moines Register/Bloomberg state poll, which shows the fiery Texas senator's lead on the loud-mouthed tycoon shrinking from 10 points to 3 points among likely Republican caucusgoers in the past month:
Ted Cruz: 25 percent, down 6 points
Donald Trump: 22 percent, up 1 point
Marco Rubio: 12 percent, up 2 points
Ben Carson: 11 percent, down 2 points
As Ann Selzer, the well-respected director of the poll, points out, the narrowing race isn't the result of a late Trump surge--the Donald's been holding remarkably steady in Iowa for months--as much as an erosion in Cruz's support. "It's hard to say Donald Trump is back, because his support grew only one point," she said. "It seems more a matter of slippage for Cruz."
His drop could be the result of the increased attention that comes with being the favorite--which has included plenty of chatter about his Canadian roots--or it could be explained by something else, including statistical noise. Either way, Cruz doesn't look as strong in Iowa today as he did in late 2015.

I have no doubt that the dems will do everything and anything they can to win.
I think you had one too many hits on the pipe and fell off.
To be fair, the minor criticism leveled on Trump on two occasions that I recall is based on the attack methodology he uses.
Most find the tactics to be somewhat contemptible and better saved for democrats. that is the extent of the criticism and that’s minor stuff. But to you and others, it appears, any criticism at all is as if you had dissed the Lord.
As to being a Conservative, I seriously doubt a conservative would use those tactics against another conservative. And You cannot deflect blame to a Pac. This is all Trump.
Trump may have a couple views shared by conservatives, but conservatism is a package of positions and understandings, and Trump does not have them, but in spite of that he appeals to some conservatives. But he also appeals to democrats.
Well, there you go. You can be just like them. Congrats.
You would also never find a liberal who wants to seal the border, send illegals back, defend the 2nd Amendment, stop the free trade deceit and bring jobs back, rebuild our military, and actually fix waste, fraud and abuse.
Maybe Trump isn’t conservative enough for all but it’s not right to say he’s not conservative.
Cue music...”$5,$10, $20, $100...whatever it takes...”
“Trumpophiles would quote the devil himself if he had anything negative to say anout Ted Cruz.”
Not true. I like Ted Cruz. I stood up and applauded for him during the “we’re going to fight back against your stupid questions” debate. I would love a Trump/Cruz ticket.
It’s the churlish, childish behavior of his supporters HERE - who relentlessly insult OUR LEADING CANDIDATE and everyone here who supports him - that I don’t like.
Conservative, they also eat their own first.
IMO, it’s Republicans that eat their own. A true conservative is introspective and self critical preferring rational debate over the politics of personal destruction.
It’s a contributing factor to the reason why we have a hard time getting elected or establishing mass appeal. very few can do it but when they do, they do it with class.
Pfffffft, VP is a nothingburger and u know it.
That suggestion in an of itself is a thinly veiled patronizing slam on Cruz so don’t play holier than thou with me.
Hmmm.
I say “I would be happy to have Cruz in the VP slot” and you call that a “patronizing slam.”
Wow. You Cruz people sure have thin skin. I hate to see how you’re going to act when your candidate loses.
What's sauce for the goose, is sauce for the gander!
The Left wants Trump. He makes deals with them. You mean like trade deals? Or giving free reign to Obama/Kerry for Iran's nuclear bomb along with $150 billion and nothing in return?...Oh wait that was Cruz's "deal" with the Progressive Obama.
Sorry pal, you’re not near as clever as you think you are. Most can see right through you so just give it up.
Never asks God for forgiveness
Was a Democrat
Is still a liberal
No Cruz said it, Rush reported it.
I missed that are you sure or just blowing smoke?
I know for a fact near the end of his show las week, he was trying to address the various claims that Trump is a Liberal. Rush said, I know Trump and he is no liberal.
“Sorry pal, youâre not near as clever as you think you are. Most can see right through you so just give it up.”
Do Cruz fans do anything except personally insult other board members?
I’ve got an idea. We Trump people can all PM Jim and try and get all of the live threads covering those giant live Cruz rallies banned...
Oh, wait. I forgot. There aren’t any.
(Sorry if that wasn’t clever enough for you).
I didn’t hear that piece, another poster did. I did hear him say Cruz was doing pus polls and that’s just the nature of campaigns. I also heard him say that for all those out there who accused Rush of letting Trump off with the liberal thing, that Rush had said “the other candidates would take care of that’ referring to Cruz going after Trump.
