Not everyone in New York are Leftists. There are many Conservatives, just not enough to win election. Its the same with California, I think Conservatives make up 30% of the population in these blue states. They’re large, but not large enough
Its a mistake to throw away Conservatives votes in blue states. New york and Calfornia are large population states. 30% Conservative votes in those states represent a population much larger than a lot of Red States
I would sort of think that the minority 30% of conservatives in ultra-lib states, where a fair swath of their fellow citizens are loathsomely pro-abortion, anti-gun, pro-homo, and immersed in leftist values, would be savvy enough to comprehend where Cruz’ comment comes from, and arguably even agree with it somewhat.
But I admit, I’ve lived the vast majority of my life in a red-state, and I don’t have any reciprocal sensitivity towards “libs” in my own state. They are people I never even regard as my fellow citizens or neighbors. They are worthless skunks, whom I’d gladly see washed out to sea with each and every cold-front.

Only because of upstate NY- I’ll be very surprised if downstate NY has 30% republicans
