A friend told me about this leak and how bad it was getting. I hadn't heard a thing about it, and hadn't seen it mentioned on FR. It might have been when it first happened, but I would think I would have remembered reading it.

SO.... I find it interesting that a leak this dangerous and of this magnitude is going on and the public largely seems to be unaware of it.

Because it is a natural even that cannot be blamed on man and thus cannot be used as justification for massive transfer of power form the People to Governments.

Burn it off as usual ... oh wait, that would pollute the atmosphere.

They have really been keeping the lid on this one. Also Jerry Browns sister is on the board of directors for the company that owns these gas fields.

LA Weekly has done a great job of reporting.

Ah, just trow a match in there. That will stop it.

Next, ask me for my fix to the overpopulation problem.

[[While methane does not stay in the atmosphere for as long as carbon dioxide, it traps radiation more effectively, making it a significant contributor to global warming.]]

And just how ‘significantly does it contribute to global warming’? Our atmosphere weighs nearly 6 quadrillion tons- what little methane is in our atmosphere is insignificant by comparison- it’s less that 0.01% of the atmosphere

No smoking hot spot

1. The greenhouse signature is missing. We have been looking and measuring for years, and cannot find it.

Each possible cause of global warming has a different pattern of where in the planet the warming occurs first and the most. The signature of an increased greenhouse effect is a hot spot about 10km up in the atmosphere over the tropics. We have been measuring the atmosphere for decades using radiosondes: weather balloons with thermometers that radio back the temperature as the balloon ascends through the atmosphere. They show no hot spot. Whatsoever.

If there is no hot spot then an increased greenhouse effect is not the cause of global warming. So we know for sure that carbon emissions are not a significant cause of the global warming. If we had found the greenhouse signature then I would be an alarmist again.

The lib solution to this is obvious. Take a quarter of the California state government’s budget and parcel it out to 3rd world dictators. That will solve the crisis, and everything in the glow-bull warming arena should be back to equilibrium and goodness again, thus saving the planet.

This is largely hysteria. It is bad for the neighborhoods in the area, but natural gas leaks into the atmosphere constantly and is removed quickly. This won’t even cause an environmental blip.

1.6 million pounds a day sounds scary. It doesn't sound so scary when you realize that's 800 tons.

I’m sure the earth doesn’t leak *any* methane naturally. It’s all sealed-up in Tupperware underneath the crust.

Not unaware. It is all over the the am radio and tv and the newspapers locally.
The average home price is over $700,000. I am not far from there but alas cannot afford a home that expensive. The homes are packed in tight with walls around most homes.

If I had the means I certainly would not buy there. Too expensive and too crowded.
