81% of Americans, 66% of pro-choice advocates support "substantial abortion restrictions"

A hefty majority of Americans - including a majority of those who consider themselves pro-choice - support "substantial abortion restrictions," says a new Marist Poll commissioned by the Knights of Columbus and released Tuesday.

The survey found that 81 percent of Americans and 66 percent of those who identify as pro-choice would restrict abortion to - at most - the first three months of pregnancy. Eighty two percent of women agree with that. The pollster says these findings have been consistent for the last eight years.

In addition, 55 percent of American overall agree that “abortion ultimately does a woman more harm than good”; 56 percent of women and 27 percent of pro-choice advocates agree. Six in 10 Americans - including 61 percent of women - say abortion is “morally wrong.” One-third of pro-choice Americans agree.

Another 77 percent overall - including 79 percent of women and 71 percent of pro-choice supporters - say that laws can protect both a mother and her unborn child. Seventeen percent of Americans overall, 15 percent of women, 23 percent of pro-choice identifiers disagree.

More numbers from the poll:

68 percent of Americans oppose taxpayer funding of abortion; the findings includes 51 percent of those who consider themselves pro-choice.

61 percent overall support laws that would ban abortion after 20 weeks of pregnancy, except to save the life of the mother. The percentage was the same for pro-choice supporters (62 percent).

51 percent overall believe health care providers and organizations should have the right to opt out of providing abortion services if they have moral objections. “Notably, even one-third (34 percent) of those who identify as pro-choice would protect the right to opt out,” the poll analysis stated.

If people would actually vote according to their beliefs, the democrat party would be extinct, the Republican party would be transformed, and constitutional party would be giving it competition.

Doctor Urged John Paul II's Mother to Abort Him

She chose life. Seventy years later he celebrated Mass in front of half a million Polish Catholics in Victory Square. -a moment widely credited as the beginning of the end of the Cold War.

I’ve been mentioning the trend in this direction to people seeing abortion as wrong.

I’m so glad to read of this.

Hillary is on record many times saying there is no restriction on abortion she could imagine that she would support.

I’ve always said that this is one issue that Liberals don’t have on their side with the majority of Americans. What they do have and use, is bigger megaphones and cargo ships full of lies.

And yet, through twelve GOP debates (including undercards) to this point, the only questions we’ve had on this subject had to do with defunding Planned Parenthood.

The Republican Committee has fooled itself into thinking that talking about abortion is a mistake, just as it did with immigration.

The RNC would blackmail any organization or individual who could manage to make the candidates state that abortion should be restricted to even the first three months, never mind their reaction to the moral position that abortion must be illegal, with no exceptions and with harsh penalties for any involved in an abortion. The candidates are also wimps and fools on this issue, refusing to explicitly state what the law should be.

Say this for Cecile Richards and the Planned Parenthood crowd: At least they are morally consistent.

Either unborn life is human life -in which case all unborn human beings have the same life as every other human being -or it isn't.

If it is not, then clearly the rights of the mother outweigh all other considerations, and any pro-life position is sentimental nonsense.

If it is, or if life in the womb becomes "human" at some arbitrary point in the gestational period (I say "arbitrary" because medical science continues to advance that point backwards and ever closer to the moment of conception)than any failure to address what would be the greatest crime in our nation's history -including slavery -is morally reprehensible.

I would definitely agree with you that pro-aborts are more consistent in their beliefs than the “pro-lifers” who allow exceptions. These “pro-lifers” are also complicit with genocide, will also be punished in the afterlife, and should be punished in this life as well via the death penalty.
