Hoover was an ultra-successful mining engineer. In 1931 he was as much at sea as everyone else.

Hoover was a very successful engineer, crisis manager, and all around good guy. The depression would have ended much faster had we continued with him. Roosevelt came in on the rabble rousing bonus march coattails in 1932 and then took actions which severely deepened and lengthened the depression.
Roosevelt was able to blame Hoover for the damage which he mostly caused.

He wrote a masterpiece “Freedom Betrayed” that explained much of the evil of FDR. He was sought out by Dem pres Truman and Repub pres Eisenhower. Both had him chair commissions to root out waste and inefficiency. Both presidents adopted about 2/3 of what he found.
Its truly a mark against America that most people think Hoover was a poor president. Im glad to see someone else knows a bit about him.
