I saw this last night. Or part of it anyway. Their point was that Trump has not been a Conservative in the past. They did, inadvertently surely, reveal Trumps appeal:
âOne big takeaway from what weâre doing â itâs not the establishment necessarily opposing Donald Trump,â Lowry said. âYou have a bunch of lobbyists on K Street right now hiding under their desk figuring out how they can deal with Trump or perhaps coopt him.”
I totally agree. But for some reason they think it is a bad thing for lobbyists to be afraid of Trump? Or trying to figure out how to co-opt him? Hell, they’ve allready co-opted all the GOPe.
I watched that segment, and she had three of them lined up on screen. I thought, "This is what middle America sees when they view the 'voices of conservatism.'" They were sour and grim and gray-looking. They all lacked that spark of optimism that Reagan brought to the movement.
It was a pitiful performance. It's just what the conservative movement needs. Bitter commentators bitching on national TV because they can't get their way. Because "their people" have the nerve to disagree with them.
Ronald Reagan was a Democrat much of his early life. A retired career prosecutor (Los Angeles) friend of mine was a "bleeding heart liberal" when he began his career and over the course of his decades of being a prosecutor he became as Conservative as anyone on this forum.
It happens... as we get older and gain experience in the real world many of us wise up to the harsh reality of the world.
