There is a long history of anti-clericism and anti-Catholicism in Mexico dating back to the 1880s. In the 1920s it was illegal to say Mass. So lets not be blaming the Catholics for this one.
"Wixaritari are relatively well-known among anthropologists for their long tradition of rejecting Catholic influences and continuing traditional Shamanistic practices.[33] Indeed, Wixaritari, along with the Lacandons and other ethnic minorities in the country, have fought for their religious and cultural freedom since the arrival of the Spanish conquerors.[34][35][36]" -- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Huichol_people#Current_issues
So past history makes this OK? It's the Catholics who are kicking these people out, not the government.
So lets not be blaming the Catholics for this one.
They are being booted by Catholics because they are not Catholic.
“So lets not be blaming the Catholics for this one”?
