The former confederation of the United States was formed upon the model and example of all the confederacies, ancient and modern, in which the federal council was only a diplomatic body. Even the Lycian, which is thought to have been the best, was no more. The magnitude of territory, the population, the wealth and commerce, and especially the rapid growth of the United States, have shown such a government to be inadequate to their wants; and the new system, which seems admirably calculated to unite their interests and affections, and bring them to an uniformity of principles and sentiments, is equally well combined to unite their wills and forces as a single nation. A result of accommodation cannot be supposed to reach the ideas of perfection of any one; but the conception of such an idea, and the deliberate union of so great and various a people in such a plan, is, without all partiality or prejudice, if not the greatest exertion of human understanding, the greatest single effort of national deliberation that the world has ever seen. That it may be improved is not to be doubted, and provision is made for that purpose in the report itself. A people who could conceive, and can adopt it, we need not fear will be able to amend it, when, by experience, its inconveniences and imperfections shall be seen and felt. - John Adams, A Defence of the Constitutions of Government of the United States of America: Volume III

What a name for the author. The only thing worse would be if his first name was Seymour.

That’s actually yours truly.
The revolution was in the minds of the people, and this was effected from 1760 to 1775, in the course of fifteen years, before a drop of blood was shed at Lexington."

P. J. O’Rourke: The Constitution is no impediment to our form of government.
Won’t be long and the liberals will want that statue taken down.
Count me as one of the nervous ones when it comes to a convention of states. Maybe it’s an overactive imagination, but I could see making things worse.
Same concerns here.
Very few state or federal politicians represent our interests and are trustworthy to improve on revising our Constitution.
Article V Convention will open Pandora’s box for all those who’ve been waiting for their chance.

What amazes me is how willing our framing generation was to learn. Only eleven years had passed from being subjects in a very class-conscious society. In that short time they learned so much from both history and experience to craft the world's best free governing institutions.
No people acting in their sovereign capacity ever sold themselves into slavery.
Truth, Justice, and the American Way.
Except congress hasn't, and never will, call a convention. It isn't in their interests. The states have submitted over 400 applications without a congressional call to convention.
I completely understand your position from previous posts.
Doing something to disrupt the institutional corruption and abuse of power from the fed, is imperative.
However, I take issue with the misplaced trust those in favor of an Article V convention, have regarding average (and below average) citizens, and many factions in society that want to tear up the Consitution.
I vehemently maintain that in these irrational self-destructive times that we live in, you can be sure that enough fools will willingly permit scoundrels to take advantage of the Article V process to have their way.
Just as those same scoundrels have been corruptly been doing at all levels of government to present time.
They ignore laws, because the people that elect them do not enforce consequence.
A revised Constitutional will not bring us honest, just government for the people.
Honest, just character and citizenship is precursor to governance in kind.
We need massive outreach to educate and improve the public’s character, citizenship, and hold all of our politicians accountable.
An idiocracy is sure to vote itself into slavery no matter it’s laws.
RE: “No people acting in their sovereign capacity ever sold themselves into slavery.”
I’m in favor of around a million of us telling the politicians that if they do anything except play it straight and do the will of the people, we will water the tree of liberty. And then back it up if need be.
While it is true that without a stronger federal Government you cannot force the same level of cooperation as a single nation. I am not at all convinced such force is required or justified.
Who is to say that common interest would not have been a driving factor just as it was at initial union.
