Because his staff got a little overzealous. That’s the sum total of what happened. CNN made it sound like Carson was dropping out. Carson himself was the source of the story. And some Cruz staffers, who were no doubt chomping at the bit, ran with the story to try and boost their candidate. Could have happened in any campaign. Cruz took responsibility and apologized to Carson publicly...the rest is just the hairpiece trying to make a trumpian mountain out of a molehill.
I would also note Rubio’s camp jumped on the same exact story, but Rubio is the liberal golden boy, so he gets a pass.
