Donald Trump’s Campaign Pulls a Negative Ad on Ted Cruz [Trump going 'nice' in SC]

On Tuesday, Donald J. Trump's campaign started running a negative ad in South Carolina against Senator Ted Cruz that was searing, describing the winner of the Iowa Republican caucuses as a fake and a "Washington insider."

The spot also scolded Mr. Cruz for his campaign's role in spreading claims that Ben Carson had suspended his campaign while the caucuses were taking place; Mr. Carson, in fact, had not ended his candidacy, and Mr. Cruz later apologized to him.

But on Wednesday the spot was abruptly pulled down by the campaign. The Wall Street Journal reported on the strategic shift, saying that Mr. Trump's campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski, had made the decision to go with all positive spots beginning on Thursday. Mr. Lewandowski made the decision after seeing that Mr. Trump's more positive-focused tone in New Hampshire appeared to help him at the end, according to The Journal.

Asked to confirm the Journal's account about only running positive spots going forward, Hope Hicks, a spokeswoman for Mr. Trump, said that is now the campaign's plan, although she did not elaborate on the reason for the change.

It’s not the ad. It’s the vulgar term he called Cruz in NH. I think that is really hurting him in the South.

But will Cruz reciprocate and stop negative ads against Trump. That would be a real win-win.

What’s wrong with pussy?

Common meanings of the noun include “cat”, “coward or weakling”

This is...

Trump has an 15% to 20% SC lead over Teddy.

The idiot that you chose to report:

“Bill Kristol @BillKristol Feb 4
NH prediction, 5 days out: Rubio 25, Cruz 22, Trump 19, Kasich 17, others single digits”

Great track record from this TDS he’s going to vote 3rd party if Trump wins.

Nothing, in my opinion. The lady (can I use that word?) was the one that shouted it out cause she thought Cruz had a wimpy answer about waterboarding. Trump needs to engage a filter once in a while. Lolz

Trump might be realizing he is going to need conservatives to win in November if he gets the nomination, smart move.

There is more to this....I give it at least 60% that Trump picks Cruz as VP...I still believe this.

Can anyone argue that Trump is good at math?

Trump needs to beat Cruz a few more primaries but in the end, I still believe Trump likes Cruz and all will be forgiven.

We can get another Repub to fill Cruz’s seat.

And more reasoning.

- That negative ad has ran its course.

- Other guys are running or are about to run a multi-million dollar negative ad campaign against Teddy. No need keep plowing the same ground.

He found out that people in the South don’t like rude/crudeness.

It won’t work, Cruz can just take his past twitter, verbal statements and make them into a campaign commercial.

Class and polite behavior works well in the South when one is genuine that’s one reason WHY Cruz will make it a real ‘contest’ there!!

The real reason Trump took the ad down is that absolutely NO ONE believes Cruz is part of the GOP establishment.

Just one on piece of evidence that Trump will lie about anything to get what he wants. He lied about this just like he lies about everything else.

As for the bullshit excuse about wanting to be positive; it’s a fact that negative ads work. Trump took the ad down because he must have polling data showing that voters have a negative reaction to it and it was hurting him.

Trump’s negative ads about Cruz are obvious lies.

Cruz’ negative ads about Trump speak the truth. No reason for Cruz to drop the negative ads because they are true and they must be working.

Maybe Trump is hoping Cruz will also drop negative and against Trump, but I doubt it.

All Cruz has to do is tell the truth about Trump and Trump’s popularity will continue to drop.

A week from this Saturday is a long time. If Trump has dropped to a 6-% lead this quickly, the momentum is obviously in Cruz’ favor; and the real campaigning in SC started just yesterday.

Don’t be surprised if Cruz wins by 6%.

This is very true. I’ve never understood the animosity the Trumpsters have toward Cruz supporters. I see them both as good candidates and I’m glad we have 2 strong patriots at the front of the pack, to defeat the GOPe. Either one is going to work to make America Great again.

The bad part is, if Trump loses he is gonna drop out of the picture, which is a big lose. If Cruz loses, he probably will either be in the Senate or part of Trump’s administration.

Trump went nuclear with his democrat talking point attacks on Cruz and the other Republicans early on in this primary. Supporters of Cruz and others have very hard feelings over this and will not be easily persuaded to forgive and forget. I know personally Trump will never have my vote. That’s the problem with going nuclear. Its mutually assured destruction heading into the general election. It doesn’t matter how big Trump’s or Cruz’s cross over appeals are if they can only pull half of the republican electorate.

A lady in the crowd called Cruz the P word, meaning wimp. Trump didn’t call him anything. You’re making crap up.

>> In NH Hillary received
Hillary Clinton 94,834 votes
Donald Trump 100,882 votes (-)
Ted Cruz 33,006 votes <<

So? Sanders received about 150,000.

Therefore, would you want us to conclude that Sanders is more popular than Trump and Cruz put together?

Okay. I will concede your point. How about this: he repeated a vulgar term that someone else yelled so that the entire crowd, including children, would be certain to hear it. I still maintain that such behavior does not go over well in the South.

Trump reminds me of the version of “Biff” from Back To The Future that didn’t get the needed beat-down.
