Lol, trump showing his reading comprehension issues & his own nastiness with this tweet.

Cruz is a US citizen therefor eligible to run for US president.

See reading the entire sentence takes away all the drama! There is no period after nbc so read on to see what other requirements are needed to be eligible for US president.

Wow! That's a novel approach to butchering the Constitution, not too dissimilar to something a kook at DailyKAOS might attempt on the Second Amendment. It's more curious because you RginTN, already had the explanation handed to you in another thread 12 days ago, yet here you are spreading this insanity again. What gives? Common Core public education? Once again ...

USA National Archives :: The Constitution of the United States: A Transcription

No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States.

The brown part is the NBC clause, the red part is the grandfather clause. Ironically, the "Great Big One" Mark Levin also stumbled over this part, badly screwing up reading this over the air and completely failing to understand the meaning ( yep, some great Constitutional scholar ). I assume you are getting tripped up by the commas that the Founders used, even though their use is consistent throughout the document and Amendments.

The NBC clause is what is operative today, has been since the Founding generation ( and since everybody alive prior to the Constitution going into effect ) passed away. The Grandfather clause was in effect until that time, and the reason for it is well-known and quite simple ... Without it, the Office of the President would have needed to remain vacant until either 1823 or 1824 when the first Natural Born Citizens turned 35 years of age.

NB: It depends upon if you use the birth date of our new Constitutional government as that from ratification by the required ninth state on June 21, 1788, or, if you use March 4, 1789 when the first Congress had its first session and the Articles of Confederation were dissolved. On either of those dates the first Natural Born Citizens were born and would finally become eligible for the Office of President in 1823 or 1824 at 35 years of age, bypassing the Grandfather clause.

Cruz is a US citizen therefor eligible to run for US president.

Just a plain old citizen? Wow! Even a naturalized one? That means almost anyone and it also means that the President has the same requirements as all other offices, not a higher standard. Now please tell us exactly how you, the only person on Earth can possibly believe this?

If Cruz, born in another country, is allowed to be president, how long will it be before a muslim, born in the Middle East to Muslim American citizens, runs for president? Will any of us here be okay with that?
