Senior U.S. Supreme Court Associate Justice Antonin Scalia found dead at West Texas ranch

Associate Justice Antonin Scalia was found dead of apparent natural causes Saturday on a luxury resort in West Texas, federal officials said.

Scalia, 79, was a guest at the Cibolo Creek Ranch, a resort in the Big Bend region south of Marfa. According to a report, Scalia arrived at the ranch on Friday and attended a private party with about 40 people. When he did not appear for breakfast, a person associated with the ranch went to his room and found a body.

U.S. District Judge Fred Biery said he was among those notified about Scalia's death.

"I was told it was this morning," Biery said of Scalia's death. "It happened on a ranch out near Marfa. As far as the details, I think it's pretty vague right now as to how," he said. "My reaction is it's really unfortunate with any death. And now, politically, in the presidential cycle we're in my educated guess is nothing will happen before the next president is elected."

New Jersey judge William J. Brennan was appointed to the Supreme Court by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1956 through a recess appointment. This was done in part with an eye on the presidential campaign that year; Eisenhower was running for reelection, and his advisors thought it would be politically advantageous to place a northeastern Catholic on the court. Brennan was promptly confirmed when the Senate came back into session.

I do not profess to know what Christ wanted or didn’t want to do, what He will or will not do. Past my salvation and the promise to advocate before the Father for me, I only rely on His compassion and His desire that no one be lost.

I would never presume to speak for Him.

Why are the US Marshalls investigating?? Is that normal when a SCOTUS dies? I am just beside myself right now. I will miss seeing his hat bobbing up and down at the State of the Union.

Yes, we'll certainly miss him. He had a sense of humor too along with being our bastion of conservatism at SCOTUS. Condolences to his family and prayers up!

Let's hope they can delay appointing a new SCOTUS justice until next January. .

Susan Estrich (?) -flaming lib- just said it would be extremely difficult for Obama to get an appointment through with a Republican senate in an election.

I am NOT making light of this but look at Keith Richards.

Abused his body for years but still going strong.

Scalia was just about to turn 80,I’m 83,and the losses in that age range are frequent.

.

Now we all know McConnell would have never said that unless he was in on the election fix. He knows what Obama knows and has stated...a Democrat will succeed him in the WH. Digitally changing those results is so easy. Hey, look what they already did in early TN voting, taking non-Bush votes and auto-switching them to Bush, as one voter documented with screen shots. No, this is no skin off McConnell because he knows what’s next, unless God intervenes Big Time. I guess we’ll see.
