The Russians were not going to allow the pipeline without a fight.Assad was never going to be so easily paid off.
You are ight...and the title of the article is not accurate.
This is an exercise involving many nations. If Turkey, Jordan, Chad, the Sudan, Pakistan, and others all participate as they say, then they could get to the numbers indicated.

But 20,000 tanks is still a huge number to try and reach even in that case...much less to organize and then logistically support in any way.
We shall see what actually becomes of this “plan.”
Some folks are slow learners. Hot tip of the day, most of those people are the most untrustworthy snakes on the surface of the planet. Clinton, Bush, Obama et al are not going to fix it, and they will only concoct ways to make sure it completely destabilizes and loots the American homeland. And so far they have done a great job.
I know truth from real first hand experience, not media filtered dogma and Free Republic doctrine
“Clinton, Bush, Obama et al are not going to fix it...”
When I was but a teen in the late ‘60s I asked my dad; “Why is the Middle East always in the news with no end to the fighting in sight? He answered; “Because we have news shows. This has been going on for dozens of centuries with no end to the fighting in sight.”
I don’t even want to know how much money and (often pretended) effort has been thrown at this unsolvable problem.
Typical international war reporting. Every ship is a battleship. Basically 20,000 is probably the total number of armored vehicles.
There is this:

That states SA has nowhere near the numbers.
WWIII was started by the dynamic duo of Hillary/McCain when they attempted to overthrow the leaders of Egypt, Libya, Syria and Ukraine. GWB was a piker compared to those two assassins.
“Our US Presidents and Russia helped get them this arsenal.”
Oh, no. I’m sure all those planes and tanks came from the vast and highly technical Saudi manufacturing sector. snicker
When someone claims they are conducting the largest and most important military exercise in their history, you can bet the bank it is not an exercise.
Be a shame if some technologically more advanced country or countries should happen to accidentally eradicate such a target rich environment.
One thing we know for sure - it won't be this country.
Around a thousand battle tanks. Add another 3,000 or so from Egypt, and what other allies have, you're correct I'm sure. However this is the media, and I suspect they include fighting vehicles as "tanks", which adds another 4 or 5 thousand for the Saudis, probably upwards of 6 thousand for Egypt depending how you distinguish a fighting vehicle from a personnel carrier. That gets them in the ballpark, especially with other allies. Are they really deploying them, significant if they are. The 2,500 aircraft might be exaggerated.

Why, Obama has stabilized the region. Some king of a spring thing. Another spring is coming, maybe the nations in the region, Iran excepted, don't see the future Barry's way.
I agree. Someone is delusional and/or fibbin' here, lol.
This is Sunni verses Shiite. A coalition force. Oil is just the butter for the bread. We know the sauds won’t run low on oil. They can run those armored vehicles till they break down.
That’s the first thing that struck me as well.
They must be a high level player.
Forces have been arriving in SA from various countries. It has been reported in the media.
Egypt is sending forces as reported elsewhere.
