“Kennedy continued:
It reflects a clear recognition by Miguel Estrada, and, hopefully this White House, that under the Constitution the Senate has shared power over judicial appointments.”
GOP, just keep repeating this Kennedy quote and you’re golden. Classic.

The ‘rats have been calling the Republicans the “party of no” for 7 years. Hopefully, they will live up to that moniker on this topic.

Turning No! into Yes! is the Art of the Deal brought to you by McConnell and Ryan.
To: Kaslin
Yes, well, if the MSM is to be believed, the Republicans are never elected. The voters don’t sweep Republicans to victory. The Republicans “seize control”

To: Kaslin
The GOP Senators better understand that the entire future viablity of their party rests on the blocking of this one nomination.
If they fail, there is no point in their existence.

Has there ever been a SC Justice nominated during an election year? I don’t think there has. The Republicans better not let Obama make history concerning this.

Gutless GOPe response:s
- "We had to do it our hands were tied"
- "We couldn't help it we had to go along"
- "We didn't have any choice
- Etc.
Just anticipating the Republican reaction to any of the turd's nominees.

So, they filibustered his nomination for two years. Two. Years. Shame the Republican Senate back on August 6, 2010 didn't filibuster the appointment of Elena Kagan for two years. This completely abnormal lesbian Kagen might have also grown weary of a two year delay and withdrawn her name.

Jeb Bush is already floating the “consensus candidate” trial balloon.
Any wonder why he’s flailing?
To: Durbin
At least 14 supreme court justices have been
confirmed during an election year.
The list:
- Oliver Ellsworth, 1796
- Samuel Chase, 1796
- William Johnson, 1804
- Philip Barbour, 1836
- Roger Taney, 1836
- Melville Fuller, 1888
- Lucius Lamar, 1888
- George Shiras, 1892
- Mahlon Pitney, 1912
- John Clarke, 1916
- Louis Brandeis, 1916
- Benjamin Cardozo, 1932
- Frank Murphy, 1940
- Anthony Kennedy, 1988
Which means they were nominated prior the election year

With a very major Presidential election year here, and the GOPe folks are having their rear ends handed to them by a few “outsiders”, they KNOW the outsiders NOW are in the driver’s seat.

By and large, Americans tend not to realize the long-term and far-reaching implications of Supreme Court decisions on their everyday lives. Hell most Americans couldn’t name a single judge on the court or tell you how many there are. If I could pick only one time that I’d like to see the Republicans hold the line, this is it.
The next choice would be, Which candidate is most likely to nominate a Scalia-like jurist for the bench?
