Dennis Hoff "employs" 500 "independent contractors"?

So do most real estate companies (not necessarily 500, but few are employees vs. independent contractors). Our SS comes from a portion of our tax bill.

I just don’t think the word ‘employ’ and ‘independent contractor’ go together. When she made that statement, what she was really saying is: “Dennis Hoff is forcing the hookers to pay both halves of SS”.

And now that we have Obamacare, she is rather ironically saying: “Dennis Hoff is handing out 1099’s so he doesn’t have to provide his employees healthcare - and they get it subsidized from the government”

I’ve delved into this before, doing taxes for my step son. I forget the name of the form, and it took around 8 months to get a response...but I was successful in getting a determination that he was an employee, and his dirtbag boss was screwing him out of 6.5%.

Anyway, I’ve been in the weeds on this, and know the litmus tests for the IRS...and I’ve watched a few specials about Hoff’s operation. A realtor generally makes the initial contact with a client, carries on continuing contact with the client, schedules meetings with the client on his own, uses his own car, makes his own decisions about advertising, sets his own working hours - acts fairly independently.

The specials I see on Hoff - everything occurs at a building he owns, the hookers are lined up (by a Hoff staffmember) to be ‘picked out’ as there form of initiating client contact, the hookers do not necessarily set their own schedule, the ‘equipment’ they use is the room and bed owned and provided by Hoff, 100% of advertising is provided by Hoff, there is a fee schedule dictated by Hoff that they must use, the hookers are forbidden from contacting the clients in any other setting away from Hoff’s property without his permission. Its very different.
