Official: Turkey to face Russia, Iran if intervenes in Syria
A senior Russian official threatened Turkey, saying that it will face Russia and Iran if carries out a ground intervention in Syria. Speaking to the official RIA Novosti news agency, Konstantin Kosachov, head of the Russian Federal Parliament International Affairs Committee, said Turkey will have to stand against Russia alone and will lack Western support if it decides to launch a ground incursion into Syria.
He argued that Turkish policy in Syria is not endorsed by its Western allies as the West favors resolution of the Syrian conflict through negotiations between warring sides.
"The second and most dangerous risk inherent in Turkish policy is the possibility that if it intervenes in Syria, it could stir a regional war with Iran," he said. "The worst scenario is that Turkey could find Russia against it. Russia proved in Syria how powerful its weapons are and showed everybody that it will not hesitate to use them if necessary."
