Sounds like Trump wants the congress to mandate that insurance companies come up with a program to cover people with pre-existing conditions. Have no idea how that would work. Doubt a Republican congress will go for it. To date, the states have had to do this.
His Planned Parenthood comment was another example. He comes out and makes a statement that is familiar to anyone hanging out in Democrat circles - that Planned Parenthood does a lot of good. There is no way that any aware conservative could ever characterize PP as 'doing good'. But Trump simply didn't know.
I think the idea is to eliminate state lines so there are better risk pools. For example, if Blue Cross Blue Shield could offer 10 nation health care plans, the prices would be more competitive with a potential pool of millions. Rather than a pool of tens of thousands in small states leading to large prices and collapse if too many sick people enter the pool like is the case with Obamacare now.
This is very common practice for large Fortune 500 companies. They are able to put all their employees under nationwide plans and use the large numbers of insured to get better prices.
The only way to accomplish universal coverage is a public system operating on a fixed budget for the 15%-20% who need it.
If we don’t do this, and fast, we’re going to wind up with a public fixed budget system for everybody, which will be a disaster.
We’ve had county hospitals before, there’s no mystery about how to do it.
“Obamacare” is failing because that’s what it was designed to do.
Democrats would love it.....maybe he will get some liberal RINOS and the DEMOs and together they can pull it off..
Just like ObamaCare...
Anderson Cooper had defined the mandate in the question that Trump was responding to. Here is the question that Anderson Cooper asked Trump minus Cooper’s speech stumble in the middle of the question. “If Obamacare is repealed and there is no mandate for everybody to have insurance...why would an insurance company ensure someone with pre-existing conditions?”
Cooper clearly defined the mandate in his question. He defined it as the “mandate for everybody to have insurance.” Doesn’t this make it clear that when Trump said he liked the mandate he was talking about the âmandate for everybody to have insurance.”
It was clear to me that Trump was saying he supported the mandate on insurance companies to take people with “pre-existing conditions.” It’s a stupid position, but it’s also one that most Republicans in Congress / politics support.
