Why Justice Scalia was staying for free at a Texas resort
https://www.washingtonpost.com/ ^ | Feb 17, 2016 | Mark Berman and Jerry Markon

Justice Antonin Scalia's sudden death over the weekend at a West Texas ranch raised questions about the nature of his travel, who paid for the trip and whether justices are subject to the same disclosure guidelines as other judges or federal officials.

Where did Justice Scalia die?

Scalia was at the Cibolo Creek Ranch, a resort tucked away in the Big Bend region of Texas about 30 miles from the border with Mexico.

The ranch is 30,000-acre getaway that is home to John B. Poindexter, according to the website of J.B. Poindexter & Co. ... One of Poindexter's companies was involved in a case that made it to the high court. Last year, the Supreme Court declined to hear a case involving an age discrimination lawsuit filed against one of these companies, court records show.

The nature of Poindexter's relationship with Scalia remained unclear Tuesday, one of several lingering questions about his visit. It was not known whether Scalia had paid for his own ticket to fly to the ranch or if someone else picked up the tab, just as it was not immediately clear if Scalia had visited before.

Scalia had been on hunting trips before that raised the appearance of impropriety.

Who else was at this ranch? Poindexter said he picked up the tab for all 35 guests as was his custom for VIPs.

I was also wondering how this trip came about.

In case anyone is wondering, John B. Poindexter, Scalia's host, and Admiral John M. Poindexter, of Total Information Awareness fame, are distinct individuals.

Yet the Post still can’t find out why Hussein has 14 Social Security numbers?

The best way to get at the facts is as soon after an event as possible. People often say things before they get their marching orders.

I would not mind knowing if there's a socially incestuous relationship among DC pols, the donor clasa, and the judiciary. It would be problematic.

Nope. Just like Obama making jokes about nominating someone. No class, no grace, no clue.

But smearing someone while alive is better?

NO government employee should expect or accept “freebies” of any value because it always leads eventually to a conflict of interest or favoritism. Let the government employees live within their salary.

If the case is over, where is the conflict?

Poindexter is an Obama supporting democrat, btw.

If there was an inquest, I imagine they might have interviewed the other guests.

But that would mean revealing who the other guests were.

(And why hasn’t the media talked to the other guests?

Is keeping the guest list secret part of the reason for not revealing to the Texas judges just who it was who had died?

Anyway, a lot of odd details...

Shouldn't the Hatch Act apply, or is the judiciary exempt?

As much as we hate to admit it, Scalia was a member of the ruling elite. As such, he was “entitled” to all the trappings and perks.
No different that the boy king and his queen.

Ten years in Washington at the highest level corrupts them all.

They do but can dismiss them if threats are nonexistent ..... I’m betting that ranch has better security than most think.

A headline in the New York Slimes says "Supreme Court Appointment Could Reshape American Life."

There is NO WAY in living hell that a stinking lawyer (Judge or Not) should be able change life in America... The constitution is NOT, has NOT and will NOT changed in any way, shape or form with the changing of a sinking lawyer!!!

We live under the laws set down in constitution, which is the supreme law of the land... In that document it says that our fundamental rights come from God... THAT means that NO man, be he judge, lawyer or commie ba$tard is going to take them away...

I seriously hope and pray that there are many, MANY folks in our country who feel the same way as I......

:(
