Former Matchbox 20 frontman Rob Thomas was under fire this weekend for a racially insensitive joke he made during a concert in Australia.
Thomas said, while on stage, "I drink till I think I'm Australian… And then keep drinking till I’m a black Australian."
The audience quickly booed the singer, with fans all over the internet later condemning him for his poorly worded joke.

"I would like to take an opportunity to further explain the comments I made in Melbourne last night," Thomas wrote on Facebook on Sunday in a lengthy and emotional apology. "First, please understand that I did not intend to make a joke about race. I have seen people comment that after coming here for so long I should know that there is a connection between the indigenous peoples of Australia and a stereotype involving drinking. Embarrassingly, I truly didn't."

So this wuss apologized only for insulting the Austrailian Aborigines but NOT for perpetuating the tired old stereotype of Austrailians in general being belligerent drunks. And since he was so driven to tears over this, did he consider "feeeelings" of those struggling with alchoholism? I wonder if he intentionally made this remark then pretended to cry like a baby over it to get the "desired" results? After all he's a bit of a hasbeen since Matchbox20 broke up. It's show biz, bad publicity is better than no publicity. just ask Beyotche, Kanye, or the rest of the KarTRASHians.
I sat in my room and cried when I realized that Western Civilization was, in affect, over and done.

A good joke has some truth in it.
There are black Australians? I should get out more.

I can assure you Rob Thomas is not a racist. And Matchbox 20 has not broke up.. He just does some solo work in between albums. He was actually making fun of himself not knowing there is some history with aborigines and drinking. The world is so hypersensitive... Everything is an offense these days.
I don’t get it...if he had said “Irish” instead of “black”...

Neither did I. Of course, I don't get the "black Australian" part of the joke anyway, but people should chill the hell out. If an Australian made a joke about Indians and drinking, it could easily be dismissed as a general lack of cultural historical knowledge.

This is the end stage of political correctness. A simple joke, maybe tasteless at worst, is now an international incident. Eventually certain speech will be against the law in many countries.
