Perot did pretty well in Mich and Ohio in 92 because union people who would not vote for Bush the elder didn’t like Clinton either. I can see Trump appealing to some of those same type voters.

The thing is, minus Wayne, Oakland, Macomb and Gennesee counties(Detroit and Flint metro) the rest of the state is fairly conservative. And with those counties hemorrhaging population it's becoming more conservative with each election cycle. Michigan is in play.
