Perhaps. Negotiatiations were underway before Carter got involved. Some say Carter pushed his way in. I don't know, the historians can sort it out. It's likely the credit goes to Sadat and Begin.

No Carter fan here. Credit to Begin and Sadat, yes. But, it was done in a neutral setting hosted by a US President.

Sadat and Begin WANTED a peaceful solution. Are you insinuating HAMAS can be a similarly upstanding negotiating partner? And let’s not forget .. Kissinger’s shuttle diplomacy in the earlier part of the decade laid the groundwork for Egypt-Israel deal.
