But I bet he couldn’t turn sideways to wash his hands.

Wash hands?

I was in line waiting for an Acela train from DC to Philadelphia a while back, and I’ll never forget seeing Chuckie show up and very visibly exhibit his disdain for having to stand at the back of the line to wait his turn to board. Coincidentally, I was standing right next to Ed Rendell, who, in spite of being completely the opposite of me politically, was very friendly and highly engaging. The guy was like a rock star with everyone greeting him. Chuckie, not so much.

Three flights on an Airbus 319 last month. Horrible. Just horrible.

I still have about a half million miles in my frequent flyer account, and (fortunately) don't need to fly all that much any more. I'll take the train or drive if it's at all possible.

The problem isn't Airbus as much as it's the customers. Unlike AMTRAK riders, fliers won't pay $40 more for a bigger seat.

This bill will end up in the same abyss where most of Chuck E Cheese's bills end up.

I had a Northwest Gold Card when we lived in the Twin Cities as I was flying two or three times a month. The big 727 was among my favorite airplanes unless it was a DC-10 to Detroit.
Arrogant Northwest ?
Yeah, but they treated us flying folks well...

Is Chuckie really this stupid?

The REAL question is: "Are Chuckie's constituents that stupid to believe that he actually cares?"

I am very much against the government intruding upon the free market. . .but I gotta say, when it comes to airline seating, the inner-me really wishes they would (violates my principles) and step in on this, to stop skin-to-skin contact when wedged between a 400lb OWS type that doesn’t bathe and a 17-yr old mother with a 18-month old baby that loves to hear itself cry. . .

(That happened to me too many times that now I don’t fly unless it is international and business class. . .and even business class is getting their share of the unwashed, self-entitled, loud, crying noise-makers, and I’m not even talking about the children, too).

Yes, and it is faster to deplane first class than coach.

Good argument in favor of making the seats bigger, or at least putting some space between the seats.

“Someday, there will be an aircraft fire on the runway in which hundreds of passengers are killed because the tightness of the seating prevents them from exiting quickly.”

Yup. . .that and when some 300lb guy that gets stuck in the exit door.

Look around the room you are in, try to find anything that is not regulated by the Government.

We need Government to regulate government. Oh wait, that was called the Constitution!

As a 5’2” person I and my children would resent having to subsidise your larger seat. There is no child fare for children over 2. Airlines already charge extra for the seats in economy plus, go sit there.

It is a comfort issue but that is for the free market to determine. Those who don’t like the seating in coach can pay to sit in first class or charter a private jet. If there is a enough demand for more comfortable seating in economy class the free market will provide it. This is the standard conservative free market “solution” which ignores completely the safety issue.

Yes, but one easy thing for the govt. to do is labeling requirements.

Set dimension standards and have the airlines tell you what size seats they are selling you.

Skinny
Normal
A Bit Porky
Fat
XXXLT

Right now you basically don't know what size you are getting. Label stuff and the free market will soon sort it out.

You are exactly correct. There are thousands of regulations on the manufacture and operation of airplanes for precisely this reason. We used to have airplanes literally crashing into each other due to lack of regulation in the air.

First time I agree with Shumer. Funny how the posters complain about the terrible experiences they have flying but any aid from the government is met with derision.

Hey we let the government set standards so that chickens aren't crowded too close, but it's still okay to cram people in like the old animal standards.

To be fare (pun intended) you can vote with your wallet. You can pay extra on most aircraft for extra room. I use my airline credit card for bonus upgrades. I travel a lot and am 6’4” so I know how brutal seats can be.

I will take the smaller, more cramped seat every time - if it comes at a lower price. If I wanted more leg/hip/elbow room, I could pay for the space. I have the money, but I’d rather spend it on something more lasting than toe room. If Chuckie gets his wish, we will all be compelled to pay more, and we’ll complain about that even more.

Yeah, but the chickens don't have a choice to do otherwise.
