Trump has not demonstrated conservative credentials to the extent I would vote for him over Cruz. He certainly know how to run his mouth, though. Cruz is about the only major political figure I’ve seen in decades who does not bow to popular opinion, but stays the course.

Carson bought that phoney Iowa stuff so he is really not an option.
He has no realistic way to gain enough delegates to win the nomination so he is now only in it to get to a brokered convention. For that he is a useful tool of the GOPe.
I could have hung with him as the second choice and him staying in the race if he had not brought Neil Bush on board, disavowed the move my the party to trash Trump at any cost to retain power, and not embraced their moves.
It is clear he has cut a deal and the only ones who lose are those fighting to stop the GOPe selling out American citizens and workers.
Yeah Cruz who wrote and op-ed with Paul Ryan urging Congress to pass TPA/TPP suddenly claiming McConnell tricked him into voting for TPA/TPP does not pass the smell test. Did McConnell also “trick” Cruz into writing that op-ed? Cruz is a liar.

Not entirely true. In fact, Cruz stands out as one of the few republicans trying to reign in the private data collection authorized under the original Patriot Act.

I'll answer your question anyway: Yes, Cruz is still an outsider. It's only because Trump is such a horrible choice that Cruz is getting any establishment support at all.
Is the GOPe trying to "use" him to stop Trump? Sure. But I'm fine with them accepting Cruz as the lesser evil. Because, Trump is certainly the greater evil.
