The “Moderates” Are Not So Moderate: Merrick Garland
National Review ^ | March 11, 2016 | Carrie Severino

Posted on 03/16/2016 8:22:59 AM PDT by Texas Fossil

But Garland has a long record, and, among other things, it leads to the conclusion that he would vote to reverse one of Justice Scalia’s most important opinions, D.C. vs. Heller, which affirmed that the Second Amendment confers an individual right to keep and bear arms.

This should be no surprise.

It is a trap. GOP should hold until after the election.

But the GOP has shown itself to be “cave” men.

Judge Napolitano saying it’s “highly unusual” for the nominee to be making an emotional appeal for nomination.

ValJ doesn’t miss a trick, does she?

Exactly. And this guy is the type who will side with the queer Kagan in regards to any fag cases.

my litmus test is the constitution. not what one thinks it says, but what it actually states.

They can “rule” all they want to “abolish” the 2nd amendment; let’s see them enforce their ruling.

You’re seeing it right before your eyes with what has happened in Oregon.

A 63-year-old male Clintonista. I would have expected another under-qualified young 40-something female from one of his favored blocs (he has already done Hispanic and lesbian so maybe black or Asian).

If he is confirmed then there is a 5-4 liberal majority for the foreseeable future.

The exclusion of Protestants from the Court would continue (instead of 6 Catholics and 3 Jews there would be 5 Catholics and 4 Jews)...not that that should matter but it is peculiar in a country that is majority Protestant.

Back in the 60s, what were then moderates or centrists are now considered to be far right extremists. Where does it end?

Good luck making your own gunpowder when they outlaw shipping/purchasing it.

We can’t get away with just saying.... Molon labe. We have to fight them every inch of the way.

FYI

“But Garland has a long record, and, among other things, it leads to the conclusion that he would vote to reverse one of Justice Scalia’s most important opinions, D.C. vs. Heller, which affirmed that the Second Amendment confers an individual right to keep and bear arms.”

“Garland thought all of these regulations were legal, which tells us two things. First, it tells us that he has a very liberal view of gun rights, since he apparently wanted to undo a key court victory protecting them. Second, it tells us that he’s willing to uphold executive actions that violate the rights of gun owners. That’s not so moderate, is it?”

Cannot put head in sand.

Yes, that is correct. But evil justices warp the Constitution to their own agenda.

Yes, I agree. But under Obama many would try.

Garland was born in Chicago, Illinois, and was raised in the Chicago area, in the northern suburb of Lincolnwood.

I suspect the first round nominee, and maybe even the second, would be chosen to be rejected by the other side out of hand. That makes successive, more desirable candidates increasingly more difficult to turn down on the basis of ‘look, they just won’t agree to ANYTHING!’, thus politicizing everything.
