And there you have it
The pride and smugness of the Republican Party elites in full display.
Republican convention rules member Curly Haugland told CNBC today that the delegates choose the GOP nominee, not the people.
CNBC reported:
Political parties, not voters, choose their presidential nominees, a Republican convention rules member told CNBC, a day after GOP front-runner Donald Trump rolled up more big primary victories.
"The media has created the perception that the voters choose the nomination. That's the conflict here," Curly Haugland, an unbound GOP delegate from North Dakota, told CNBC's "Squawk Box" on Wednesday. He even questioned why primaries and caucuses are held.
Haugland is one of 112 Republican delegates who are not required to cast their support for any one candidate because their states and territories don't hold primaries or caucuses.
Even with Trump's huge projected delegate haul in four state primaries Tuesday, the odds are increasing the billionaire businessman may not ultimately get the 1,237 delegates needed to claim the GOP nomination before the convention.
This could lead to a brokered convention, in which unbound delegates, like Haugland, could play a significant swing role on the first ballot to choose a nominee.
Most delegates bound by their state's primary or caucus results are only committed on the first ballot. If subsequent ballots are needed, virtually all of the delegates can vote any way they want, said Gary Emineth, another unbound delegate from North Dakota.
"It could introduce Paul Ryan, Mitt Romney, or it could be the other candidates that have already been in the race and are now out of the race [such as] Mike Huckabee [or] Rick Santorum. All those people could eventually become candidates on the floor," Emineth said.
DROP DEAD, MOTHER F——R!
Perfect example of why no one trusts professional pols.
And that folks is the problem
Ditto
Fourth posting of this story today.
and they wonder why trump is leading....arrogant bastards. deserve to lose
I fear an uprising if the will of the people is not followed.
They REALLY want a war.
Here is my take on politics
There is no Constitutional justification, or encouragement for us having a two party system.
So why do we have this ugly situation?
Two political gangs, the Republicans, and the Socialists (who have taken over the democrat party) divide the political spoils between them, and make sure no outside candidate, or third political party can ever get elected-with a few minor exceptions.
As a right wing democrat who doesn't have a party anymore, I mostly vote for the stupid, politically inept, anti labor Republicans, because I feel they do less damage to the country and family, and are more supportive of our Constitution, than are the Socialists, who want to destroy this country.
So you can't really expect either gang to represent you, unless you are a member in good standing, or can buy the influence, either with money, or by delivering votes.
Who the hell does he keep calling for money? Lose my number jerk.
This is how 3rd parties are born.
That is right and I am afraid that will happen.
How can anyone in good conscious vote for the GOP, EVER.
Go To Hell GOP!
The delegates will do what we the people tell you to do.
He sent a memo to the SD RNC membership stating such. It’s a pdf on the dailycaller site: can’t link to it as is is an autodownload thing.
The party system is a relatively recent construct evolving in 18th century England while nations have existed for some 5000 years. Traditional rule was either Oligarchic, as in Greece or Monarchical, as in Rome. Together, they persisted for some 1500 years and left a legacy we can merely fantasize about.
We are a tad past 200 years. Remember that the next time some schmuck insists that we are the greatest.
It needs to be more, because even if they lose, they win. We need to send them to the netherworld.
