I only know a bit about the DFL from a friend who vacations in Minnesota every summer.
Democrat-Farm-Labor party. At least it is truth in advertising. AFAIK, it emerged from the radical progressive/socialist/populist/labor movement of the early 20th century. They're off the left end of the scale.
Recall the rent-a-mobs that assaulted the WI capitol a few years ago over Scott Walker's labor reforms? DFL led the way.
