A word to the wise:
This is what happens when the new kids in town try to make beer illegal.
Thanx
Participatory democracy at its finest.
It involved horses and 150 casualties out of a few thousand people?
At first, I thought it might have been my ancestors having a family reunion, but there would have been more casualties.
You sure this isn’t from the 2016 Republican race?
;)
There weren’t big wars back then? Some researchers. Try cruising through the Vedas sometime. Gilgamesh. Lol! There have been big wars as long as there have been large populations.
that’s a big battle, for peat’s sake
I think I saw this on History Vikings episode last night
Lots of wars in that era.
The Trojan war. Egyptians and Hittites and everyone else. Israelites and Philistines. etc.
I wonder why they would draw that conclusion...?
Did men simply just start having large scale battles on a whim ?
Human nature is the same today as it was 3,500 years ago...
*The gruesome scene, frozen in time by peat*
Tis a beautiful country though; lush rolling hills, and the peat, ah the peat.
Debate continues over whether Stone Age people were peaceful or warlike - See more at: http://www.ancient-origins.net/news-history-archaeology/unexpected-and-gruesome-battle-1250-bc-involved-4000-men-across-northern-020781#sthash.h5pXjAK8.dpuf
I think I’d guess warlike.
Strange, I always assumed all the “big time” feuding and fighting way back then occurred around the Mediterranean.
There’s a youtube of this already.
If you listen at 13:43 you can hear someone offscreen say:
“Crush your enemies. See them driven before you. Hear the lamentations of the women. That is best.”
“men, most between ages 20 and 30, found so far shows some may have been from hundreds of kilometers away”
Hmmm....sounds familiar. Isn’t something going on today involving large groups of men this age far from home?
I am going to make a guess here and some may not like it.
I suspect that the oldest son inherited the family farm and/or herds of livestock, and the younger sons had no other way to earn a living except to become mercenaries.
A conflict of this size usually involves Kingship.
I believe what we are seeing here is a large battle involving royals and their forces, many of whom were mercenaries from all across Europe.
I believe the battlefield represents an early Cruzite / Trumpkin conflict. Just not as bloody.
