Democrats See Gains as Donald Trump Targets a Wife
New York Times ^ | March 25, 2016 | AMY CHOZICK and TRIP GABRIEL

Senator Ted Cruz may have urged Donald J. Trump to leave his wife, Heidi, “the hell alone,” but there is one group that is quietly hoping Mr. Trump’s attacks on his rival’s spouse and other women will continue indefinitely: Democrats.

As Hillary Clinton turns her attention to a general election campaign, Mr. Trump’s nasty skirmish with Mr. Cruz, including his warning to “spill the beans” about Mrs. Cruz, without offering specifics, and his reposting of a message that mocked her looks, have played into a crucial Democratic strategy to defeat Mr. Trump in November: to portray him as an unabashed sexist.

Mrs. Clinton’s allies hope to sway suburban and independent women, who will play an outsize role in deciding the fall election, to support her candidacy by pushing this theme. These Democrats say the matchup would be historic: one pitting the first female nominee of a major political party against a rival who has repeatedly dismissed and disparaged women and their looks.

“I want Donald Trump to talk every single day for the rest of this election,” said Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz of Florida, the chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee. “He just needs to keep spewing what he has been spewing.”

Although Mrs. Clinton will present herself as a protector of women, the political strategy is more about math than morality.

“Suburban women have been a critical swing group in the past, and there’s a lot about Donald Trump that is offensive to them,” said Geoff Garin, a Democratic pollster who served as a chief strategist to Mrs. Clinton in 2008.

Outside groups that support Mrs. Clinton’s candidacy have begun to track and compile comments Mr. Trump has made about women into a decades-long montage of misogyny to be used in the fall.

Trump may or may not be hurting Cruz, but he is definitely hurting himself.

This article is already out of date.

If this is a contest of who can hurt themselves the most, Cruz won.

Well, Bill Clinton is fair game. Who wants the sexual predator in the White House? Not me!

but she’s right.

our side looks like fools.

women will care more about trump’s comments about women than they will Bill’s rapes because those will be hidden by the press.

sickening.

Cruz hurt himself the most. He falsely accused Trump for everything. From Chicago riot, Brussel attack and now this

Let’s get it straight. Cruz attacked Trump’s wife with a nude photo. Trump attacked Cruz’s wife as a long-time GOPe politician, with connections to the Bushes and membership on the Council of Foreign Relations.

It seems to me that Cruz played a dirty trick, but that Trump’s comments are politically relevant and legitimate.

Heidi Cruz has dozens of important connections to the political establishment and the banksters. It seems to me that that is certainly relevant, especially since her connections are coming up with big bucks for Ted Cruz.

I don’t know why Mrs Cruz is not fair game when Bill Clinton and Michelle Obama is fair game. Mrs Cruz is involved in politics, unlike Melania who hasn’t been involved in it at all

BS. Trump has not targeted anyone’s wife. Cruz’s Pac targeted Trump’s wife and he took up for her. It took the low-life slimy Canadian lawyer 3 full days to denounce the the hit piece on Melania Trump. The media is trying to turn it into something it’s not. They should be concentrating on the sexual deviant Cruz bedding down 5 women, all of whom worked for him. That’s the big story. Not Trump.

As a matter of fact, yes. That’s how I see the big picture and Cruzers don’t.

Any Republican who listens to New York Times is a Nut

I think most know that the Cruz Campaign attacked Melania First after to steal Utah.

Cruz bribes Carly Fiorino , Jeff Roe of THE Cruz Campaign request the Photo of Melania Trump from Cosmopolitan.

Whether Cruz had many affairs will come out like John Edwards and Tiger Woods by a Pulitzer Prize Winner reporter at the National Enquirer , both Edwards and Woods denied it, too

Story was passed arounf by Rubio Pacs

Excuse me....Cruz’s campaign manager contacted GQ for the Melania photo.

And please tell me how re-tweeting a headshot of Heidi is an attack.

Cruz is probably jealous.

While the optics on this may not look so good (The Donald is losing the “female vote” by something like a 2-to-1 margin), it remains to be seen if this does, in fact help Herself in the least. The assumption is that unlike other voter blocs, the mature female contingent will automatically gravitate to Herself, perhaps the least sympathetic and likable candidate the Democrats have put up since, I don’t know, John W. Davis in 1924, who was a little-known former congressman and diplomat from West Virginia. Since Davis was a conservative, many liberal Democrats bolted the party and backed the third-party campaign of Wisconsin Senator Robert M. LaFollette, Sr., who ran as the candidate of the Progressive Party.

The Donald’s epitaph has already been written several times, but somehow, reports of his demise are greatly exaggerated. Like Mickey Mouse, he can apparently be smashed flat as a cookie, yet spring right up and come back in three dimensions and full Technicolor the very next day.
