First of all, I am operating under the assumption that this is all true and I'll tell you why in two words: John Edwards.

There's little doubt that this turn of events will benefit him greatly - so much so that one has to speculate, what did he know and when doid he know it? What Trump knew and when he knew it will remain a matter of speculation for a long time I suspect.

Let me try to clarify my post.

1. I have no idea if the allegations against Senator Cruz are true or false but logic would dictate that they are one or the other.

2. In contrast to general supporters of Mr. Trump or others who might endorse or advocate for him, Ms Pierson holds the title of official national spokesperson for his campaign. By virtue of her position, her credibility is tied directly to that of the candidate. She is not some shrinking violet but rather is a forceful and articulate spokesperson.

3. Mr. Trump has made lying a major issue of creditability by his repeated reference to “Lying Ted” and description of Senator Cruz as “the big liar and a nasty person”.

4. When the story contains the allegation that Ms. Pierson had an affair with Senator Cruz and she clearly, publicly and unequivocally states that she did not, there are only two possibilities. Either she is telling the truth or she is lying.

Admittedly, this has been a long winded way of explaining what I see as an ironic situation facing Mr. Trump. Given his very forceful opposition to lying, if he supports his very effective spokesperson, he is also supporting his opponents position that the charges are false. If he believes his opponent is guilty, yet continues to support Ms Pierson, he is not only showing a willingness to have a liar speak for him, he is also undermining his creditability on the criticism of Senator Cruz for not taking decisive action against his employee in the Dr. Carson affair. If he fires her, he not only gives up a very effective spokesperson but acknowledges that he made a mistake in hiring a flawed individual, i.e. a liar. I have no idea what Mr. Trump will do, if anything. I am curious however.
